The Health Benefits of Drinking Aloe Vera Juice

The Latest Trend in Healthy Drinks Aids in Digestion and May Even Lower Blood Sugar

Allow me to take some attention off apple cider vinegar for a moment and shed light on another drink that's been popping in conversations and is even included in some of our favorite cold-pressed juice blends: aloe vera.

As a topical agent, aloe vera can alleviate general discomfort from a bad sunburn (and has also shown some promise as a treatment for psoriasis), but imbibing this plant is a whole different story. Researchers believe that the complex carbohydrates found in the juice are where this plant's powers truly reside — it also contains a number of digestive enzymes, antioxidants, and a natural form of aspirin. With all this said, there are some promised benefits — with some having more merit than others — so get the facts and drink with care.

Digestion: Historically, aloe vera has been used as an effective natural laxative, since the juice of the plant encourages the bowels to move and helps with elimination. After sipping the juice, it takes about 10 hours for aloe to get things going. Be careful about relying on this as a long-term cure, since using aloe regularly can affect the lining of the intestines.

Blood sugar: Early research suggests that aloe vera juice can help lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. However, more thorough testing is needed to determine how beneficial aloe is in the situation, since studies have had conflicting results.

Cholesterol: Although the data is considered insufficient to support this claim, there is a small amount of evidence that suggests taking aloe orally can lower cholesterol. Once again, more studies are needed to see if aloe fulfills this promise!

You should be forewarned, aloe vera juice has a strong, pungent taste. If you can't cope with taking it straight, blend it in a smoothie or juice. Try this fruity strawberry, banana, and aloe vera smoothie or our avocado, spinach, and aloe smoothie, which is perfect for a day of detox. The recommended serving size for aloe one tablespoon up to two times a day.

I love ALOE Drink, I drink it by the Glass and add some to my glass of Emergen-C in the Mornings. I prefer the Aloevine brand & Mango and Pineapple mix the best with Tropical Flavor Emergen-C. Whatever Brand we choose to Use---THIS is what we get from the Leaf/Pulp: Chemical analysis shows that aloe vera contains vitamins, minerals, triglycerides, carbohydrates, amino acids, enzymes and water. The vitamins found in aloe include B1, B2, B3 and B12, choline, folic acid, vitamin C and beta-carotene (a precursor to Vitamin A), which are all vital to optimal health and the formation of certain key enzymes. Aloe has been shown to contain many beneficial minerals needed for good nutrition. Minerals found in aloe include calcium, magnesium, potassium, chloride, iron, zinc, manganese, copper, chromium, sulfur, boron, silicon, phosphorus, and sodium. These minerals are vital in the growth process and essential for the function of all body systems.

I love drinking aloe juice. My favourite brand is Ultimate Aloe. Since most of us don't have the healthiest diets, it's really important to drink aloe juice because it helps your stomach to effectively break down the foods and nutrients and aids with digestion. I find it also helps to clear my throat. Ultimate Aloe is really pure and the highest quality on the market. you can buy it online here >

I have been using a refreshing aloe drink in the morning. I use Organic Aloe-pure natural fillet. 8 oz cool water, half a lemon, 2 oz aloe and a couple of tsp of pure organic maple syrup. Alkalizing for the body, helps get your digestion going, a little bit of sugar to get the brain going. This is a great refresher at any time of the day!

I LOVE Aloe Vera juice. I have been drinking it on and off now for the past 3 years. I started drinking it out of desperation. I had a stomach ulcer that Rx meds would not even help. I drank the Aloe Vera juice for a week and the ulcer had was almost gone. That was the first sign of relief that I had, had in about a year. The doctors were starting to talk surgery to try to repair it. I find that if I start to drink it at the first sign of stomach trouble then it stops it. I know that it is not for everyone, but it is worth a shot... I highly recommend trying Aloe Vera Juice.

I have been taking Aloe Vera juice for 5 years. It is the only natural thing that I have found for major digestive problems I have had in the past. It also prevents plaque on your teeth. My dentist cannot believe that I have no plaque when I go in to get my check-up. This will always be a part of my diet. I drink 4 to 6 ounces a day.

Hi...I've been taking this drink for a week already. Honestly\u00a0 the taste is just horrible. However I do see some benefits. My skin is softer and not that I need to lose any weight, but this really helps to encourage it. Besides that, it acts almost like a laxative for me

I have been using "Lilly of the dessert" (whole leaf) 3x a day for the last 3 days. I have mixed it according to a recipe to cure cancer. ( Whole Leaf Aloe, Honey & A clear 100+proof liquor) I'm using Ever Clear Grain Alcohol because it has no taste and was only $5. (it tastes GREAT! very sweet) Anyways... I don't have cancer but I do have other issues, like pain in my left foot (2 months) and a bad case of allergies (5 months) and I'm overweight, most likely due to my thyroid since I've tried everything else. I even became a vegetarian for the last year with low carbs, mostly veggies and fruit. So I figured if it could cure cancer, It might work for my little health issues. Here are my results after 3 days... On the 3rd day it doesn't hurt so much to walk or stand on my foot! My cough is gone! My skin on my face feels amazing! but I'm still fat. LOL I am happy for little miracles. I'm going to do it for the full 10 days, like the directions say, 10 days on 10days off. Who knows what it's fixing inside me, I'll take it. Here's the info if anyone wants to read it, good health to you <3

I have purchased and consumed the Trader Joe's aloe vera juice for years.  I'm satisfied with it's quality and it has the best price of any aloe vera juice I have found.  It does not have the "strong pungent taste" the article mentioned, but neither is it tasteless.  It has a mild, slightly herby taste with a nice citrus - like tang.  After a long bike ride, especially on a hot day, or after a hard workout, I have found it to be the ideal rehydration and recovery drink.  I sometimes drink it straight, but usually mix it with a teaspoon of powdered Gatorade mix (lemon-lime goes best with it) and some club soda.  This makes a delicious and refreshing drink anytime, but especially - as I mentioned - for those times you need rehydration.  I do enjoy excellent gastrointestinal health and a general feeling of energy and vitality as a result as well.

Yes - Aloe is amazing. I was surprised how bad the pure stuff tastes though! Fortunately you can conceal it completely in a smoothie. For info on all the magical things Aloe can do for you, and how to use the fresh stuff straight from the plant, check out

I've been having a lot of pain directed in the solar plexus and chest area. For awhile I thought I had a stomach ulcer, then the pain just felt like my muscles were tightened into a ball on my chest. My whole body was retaining salt (I would bloat). Also, I had server shoulder muscle pain. I've been drinking aloe juice for two days now and then pain has improved soooo much. The loner I've been drinking it, the better I feel. I'm no longer bloated and feel comfy in my jeans again :) I'm finally out of my house instead of laying around being in pain all day.

I just had my sister and mom try some. We just put a leaf from our aloe plant into our vitamix with some strawberries and blueberries. We're hoping it helps my sister fight off this nasty sinus infection. It tasted delicious!

I've read that actually consuming a lot of this can be harmful... well, if you didn't want to go buy the juice could you just eat the flesh from the inside of a leaf? We have a TON growing in our front yard.
