Starbucks Now Has 2 Vegan Cold Brew Smoothies Packed With Plant-Based Protein
Praise be to the vegan gods! Starbucks just dropped a brand-new plant-based drink — the Protein Blended Cold Brew — and it's the perfect way for vegans and non-vegans alike to get their caffeine and protein fix in one sitting. Talk about a nutritious double whammy!
The Protein Blended Cold Brew comes in two different flavors: almond or cacao, both of which offer 270 calories or fewer and have slightly different certified vegan ingredients. The almond option combines Starbucks cold brew with almond milk, plant-based pea and brown rice protein, almond butter, a banana-date fruit blend, and ice. The cacao flavor, on the other hand, mixes Starbucks cold brew with coconut milk, plant-based pea and brown rice protein, cacao powder, a banana-date fruit blend, and ice. Um, is your mouth watering yet or what?
The best part? These nondairy drinks can be customized to fulfill your desired taste. Want more protein? Ask your barista to toss in a second protein packet for an extra seven to eight grams of protein. On a caffeine cleanse? Don't worry; you can swap the cold brew for a shot of decaf espresso. Have a secret hatred of dates? Instead of the banana-date fruit blend, you can request a whole banana. And lastly, if nondairy milk isn't your jam, you can request dairy (though your beverage will no longer be plant-based).
I had the chance to taste test both the Protein Blended Cold Brews before Starbucks released them to the public and can attest to their yumminess. The almond flavor was definitely my favorite, as the almond butter was really prominent, but I can definitely see the cacao flavor being a hit among chocolate-lovers out there. They reminded me of a less sugary, protein-filled version of Starbucks's regular Frappuccinos. Ahead, learn more about the nutritional information for each of these limited-edition refreshments, and scoot your boot to Starbucks to try 'em for yourself.
