Adidas and Stella McCartney are doing something huge for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year, they released a Post-Mastectomy Sports Bra as a way to encourage survivors to bring fitness back into their lives following surgery. It's the brand's first product of its kind, and it's a cause that hits close to home for Stella, who lost her mother to breast cancer in 1998.

"I really wanted to encourage women to take care of their health through wellness and self-care," Stella said in a press release. "This bra allows us to support recovering patients through the next phase of their journey, and hopefully give them the confidence to get back into training. It has a cool and modern look that will help motivate the wearer, as well as assuring them they are not odd one out in the gym."

And this isn't your regular sports bra. The brand teamed up with bra consultant Monica Harrington, who has years of experience working with breast cancer patients, to ensure the material and different aspects of the product were all taken into careful consideration when designing the postoperative bra. The Post-Mastectomy Sports Bra was designed with a front zipper closure, and it has inner pockets with removable pads. The seams were all placed specifically around the arms to "reduce discomfort and irritation to areas of the skin prone to sensitivity due to surgical scarring." The bra also has a wide band at the bottom for comfort and adjustable straps for support.

The brand tapped British professional boxer and breast cancer survivor Michele Aboro for the campaign, and she said that the new product helped her immensely. "After my surgery I felt lost. As a professional athlete, I was used to relying on my body but after my mastectomy, I started to lose belief in myself and how my body would react. When I was ready to get back into fitness, I couldn't find a sports bra that didn't require being pulled over my head or lacked in support," she said. "Now I wear the Post-Mastectomy Sports Bra every time I train — it is comfortable and supportive and has helped me build back my confidence to get back into the game."
