Somewhere between sour cream and crème fraîche, Mexican crema is a slightly sour, cooling, and creamy condiment.
Although you can purchase it at many ethnic markets, here is a super easy recipe to make it at home.
- 1 cup heavy cream
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
- Combine the ingredients in a large bowl. Whisk until smooth. Cover and let sit at room temperature for 3 hours.
- Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy, or place in the refrigerator until ready to use. The crema will last as long as the sour cream that is used, so pay attention to the expiration date on the sour cream container. Let come to room temperature before eating.
