You'll Want to Travel the World Just to Try Each of These McDonald's Fries

Let's be real: the best part of traveling to a new place is immersing yourself (and your stomach) in the local culture by visiting hidden local eateries. I'd never even entertained the idea of having a meal at a big chain restaurant while on vacation, but that was before I discovered the glorious variety of french fries at McDonald's all over the world. There's way more to the fast-food chain than the salt-doused potato slices we've come to know and love.

If you're ready to fall deeper in love with those hangover-solving golden arches, read on to see what other tantalizing fries are available at McDonald's locations all over the globe. (Spoiler alert: truffle fries are involved, people.)

Japan: McChoco Potato

You technically don't have to fly all the way to Japan for these chocolate-drizzled fries. They're super easy to DIY at home if you're craving that salty-sweet combination.

All Around the World: Potato Wedges

Oh my — after seeing these crispy-looking potato wedges, I don't think I'll ever be able to look at the regular McDonald's fries the same again. Known in some Latin American menus as McPatatas, they're also apparently sold in France, Australia, Hong Kong, Lebanon, and the UK.

The Netherlands: Boerenfriet

Boerenfriet, or "farmers fries," are thicker cut and are typically served with a side of mayonnaise as is the tradition in the Netherlands.

Philippines and Singapore: Curly Fries

Also referred to as "Twister Fries," these coiled, greasy masterpieces are available as a side in both the Philippines and Singapore.

Australia: Sweet Potato Fries

No, you're not dreaming — McDonald's serves actual sweet potato fries, but it looks like they may only available in Australia. Those darn lucky Aussies!

Italy: Curly Fries With Herbs

If the regular ol' curly fries blew your freakin' mind, then the Italian version is sure to send you over the edge. The Italians serve their McD's curly fries smothered in herbs; does it get any better than that?!

Canada: Poutine

Naturally, McDonald's locations in Canada serve poutine: french fries topped with white cheese and gravy.

If salt just doesn't cut it for you, McDonald's Shaker Fries are here for you. Various locations all over the world offer different seasoning packages along with their fries, such as a cheeseburger flavor in Australia and truffle flavor in Singapore. Yum!
