How an Apartment-Dweller Turned Her Small Closet Into a Glam Station

It was hard to suppress the envy we felt upon discovering that Khloé Kardashian combined two bedrooms in her home to create a massive walk-in closet. Her dreamy space included rows upon rows of shelves for her designer shoe collection and a sprawling island of drawers bigger than our entire kitchens for folded garments. While having a closet big enough to do sprints in would be nice, it's not realistic for most small-space-dwellers. We would be happy just to make our closets as organized and glamorously designed as a Kardashian's. Stylist and wardrobe consultant Christine Cameron felt the same way about her cozy New York City space. That's why she tapped TaskRabbit to give her closet a celebrity-worthy makeover. Dennis B arrived at her door ready to do some serious overhauling, and he's shared his Kardashian closet makeover tips with us. Keep reading to learn how you can replicate the look to create a dreamy closet in any home.

01
Empty everything out of your closet.

Empty everything out of your closet.

The first step to any closet makeover is to empty it completely — and since Christine's closet was filled from floor to ceiling with stuff, that meant there was a lot of cleaning out to do. "This is a great opportunity for decluttering," said Dennis B, who recommended the four-box method. "Before you start emptying your closet, take four boxes and label them as trash, give away, keep, or relocate. As you remove items, place them in the appropriate box, and voila! Less stuff equals less clutter."

Update with fresh paint.

It's amazing how dramatically a coat of paint can transform a space! After emptying Christine's closet, Dennis B painted it pale pink to give the space depth and create soft contrast with the white furniture and gold accessories that Christine selected.

Assemble main racks and shelves.

After painting, Dennis B assembled and installed the key pieces of furniture that provide the closet’s foundation: a custom vanity with two small chests of drawers capped with a tabletop and a shelf with bulit-in drawers for extra storage.

Customize with glamorous finishes.

Wanting to keep the glamorous transformation on par with the Kardashians, who glitz up their homes down to the very last detail, Denis installed gold hardware. This small customization makes store-bought drawers look high-end and expensive.

Install classic dressing room lights beside the mirror.

An Old Hollywood-style lighted mirror ups the wow factor, while the small shelves that Dennis B added on either side give the perfect spot for Christine to store small items. #Shelfie, anyone?

Add stylish organizers to display accessories.

The Kardashians are nothing if not super organized — have you seen Khloé's cookie jars?! To give Christine's closet the same look, Dennis B hung a brass accessory rack atop gold and marble hooks so all of her sunnies and scarves could be stylishly displayed and organized.

07
Arrange fashion pieces in stylized vignettes.

When you want that Kardashian look, it's not enough to merely organize your things. You have to editorialize them too! Luckily, Christine has an expert eye and knew just what fashion-forward items to group into vignettes, such as perfume bottles, sky-high designer pumps, and statement jewelry.

08
Tie it all together.

For a finishing touch, Christine added a spinning makeup tray to the vanity. Dennis B explained, "The marble and gold coordinate with the rest of her closet setup, while the spin feature makes the most of a small space and keeps all the essentials at her fingertips."

Despite her cramped quarters, Christine now has a dream closet any reality star would lust after. Large overhead storage items are now concealed in sleek back boxes, while the day's outfit pick can be hung on the door hooks. A stylish stool and soft rug underfoot make it the perfect spot to relax and get ready for the day. All that's left to do is to enjoy.
