Right or Wrong? We Find Out What Was Accurate in the Selena Movie

I remember the first time I watched Selena. My mom was obsessed with the Tejano singer, and she forced me to watch it with her. But she never had to force me again. I fell in love with her and wanted to know more, so I started looking into what actually happened — did those guys actually said "anything for Selenas"? We bet your curious, too.
Twenty years after its release, the Selena movie is definitely a cult classic — if you haven't watched it, run and do so now — but like every "based on a true story" film, there are some things that aren't 100 percent accurate. We did the research (so you don't have to) and found what the movie got right and what it got wrong. Selena's widow, Chris Perez, watched the movie in February 2017 and broke it down for us on his Facebook page and her dad opened up during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, so there would be no confusion. Read ahead.
The Washing Machine Dance by the Beach
Right or wrong? WRONG!
The movie shows Selena learning the washing machine dance from her mom on the beach, but her dad set the record straight and said that never happened. "What is true is that we would go as a family down by the water," Suzette said.
The Bustier Freak Out
Right or wrong? RIGHT!
In the movie, we see Selena's dad freaks when she performs in a bustier. Abraham said that was definitely accurate. I'm a typical Mexican father," he told ET.
"Anything for Selenas"
Right or wrong? RIGHT!
The movie definitely got this one right. "I heard about the 'bumper story.' That happened before I was in the band. #Funny #AnythingForSelenas," Chris said.
The Stage Collapse in Mexico
Right or wrong? RIGHTish!
The movie shows Selena's dad briefly talking about the stage collapsing, but the movie doesn't show much of a collapse. It turns out that it was way more dramatic than that. "That was even crazier than the movie shows. I thought we were not gonna make it out," Chris said. The movie also didn't reveal Selena and Chris were already married at that point.
Chris Trashing a Hotel Room
Right or wrong? RIGHTish!
Chris definitely did trash the hotel room, but he didn't stay quiet like the movie shows. "Room trashing happened . . . Oh God. Not one of my prouder moments. But I paid THOUSANDS in damages. Lesson Learned. She . . . was . . . PISSED," he said on Facebook. "Oh, I partook . . . movie magic."

Selena Pursued Chris
Right or wrong? RIGHT!
In the movie, Selena definitely goes after Chris and isn't afraid to show her love for him. When asked who made the first move Chris said: "(cough, cough) SHE did. Although ... I was COMPLETELY down for it, LOL!"
Joe Catches Selena and Chris Kissing
Right or wrong? WRONG!
In the movie, Joe is the one that catches Chris and Selena making out but in reality it was Rick. "She always made me nervous . . .who 'dances' next to Selena? LOLO!!!! :) Then, it got real. CHHTT!!!!!! And it was Ricky (not Joe) that busted us. (Sorry Rick...my bad)," Chris said.
Selena and Chris's Pizza Date
Right or wrong? WRONG!
Chris Perez revealed on Facebook that this was actually the first time the two said "I love you" to each other, so while it happened, it held a lot more meaning to the couple. "This scene coulda been a lil more heavy . . . My head was spinning," Chris said.
