Here's How Close the Candidates Are to Winning the Presidential Nominations
![]()
As the Democratic and Republican conventions approach, here's a tally of where the remaining candidates stand in delegate count. Republicans have 16 contests left until June, while Democrats have 20.
Republicans need 1,237 delegates to win the nomination.
- Donald Trump has 743.
- Ted Cruz has 545.
- John Kasich has 143.
Democrats need 2,383 to win the nomination.
- Hillary Clinton has 1,289.
- Bernie Sanders has 1,038.
- These numbers do not include superdelegates, which can change their minds. Clinton has 468 superdelegates, while Sanders has 31.
Cruz has gained enough steam to possibly force a contested Republican convention if Trump doesn't get enough delegates, while Sanders needs to win more than 57 percent of the votes going forward in order to knock Hillary Clinton out of the frontrunner position.
Numbers come from the Associated Press and were last updated here April 13.
