My relationship with water has always been complicated. Some days, I'll be really good about drinking enough, while most days, I find it to be too boring to sip on. I've tried to spice things up by adding a few lemon slices, but even that rarely does it for me. I've simply come to the conclusion that it's not water, it's me. Despite my perpetual dehydration, the one product that's helped me come close to reaching my intake goals is the Spring Smart Bottle by Bellabeat ($89).

In addition to looking beautiful, the heavy-duty glass bottle features Bluetooth Smart wireless syncing, which means I'm able to track every drop I drink on my phone. During the initial setup process, Spring even calculated my optimal amount based on my age, height, weight, and activity level. From there, all I have to do is shake the bottle to upload my latest data. It's pretty freaking awesome.

I can also track my progress through the app by getting a comprehensive look at my habits over the past week or months. If I forget to take a sip, no problem! The app sends me regular reminders throughout the day to help me maintain my H2O levels. The bottle's smart base features a highly sensitive scale that can detect differences between refilling, emptying, and drinking. So, don't try to trick it. It also doesn't require charging, as it's powered by a lasting coin cell battery.

Why I Love It

I've tried everything to get myself to drink more water, from buying a pretty bottle to infusing my water with flavor. But my newfound drinking habits never last longer than a week. With the Spring, I can actually see how little I drink per day — and the effects of dehydration are no joke. My competitive side also helps me in that I treat it like a game; my objective is to reach my tailored goal of 77.8 daily ounces. The best part about this smart bottle, however, is how easy it is to clean. Every part of it, including the silicon cover, is easily removable and dish-washer safe, (except for the smart base, which can be wiped using a damp cloth).

Although it's still been a challenge to stay as hydrated as I should, the Spring has definitely improved my water-drinking habits. My daily average (40 ounces) isn't quite where I need to be, but it's a hell of a lot better than my previous average of less than 15 fluid ounces per day (I know, that's really bad). If you're wondering why I'm so terrible at doing such a simple task, I blame it on coffee. The second I wake up, I drink coffee. When I get to the office, I drink my second cup until lunch time. My lips used to not even touch water until around one or two in the afternoon. I've since gotten better at taking sips of water in between. Nevertheless, I know that my small improvement has made a difference because my skin completely freaked out when I fell back to my old ways. I immediately started breaking out — which is a rare occurrence for me — when I reduced my water intake to my usual amounts.

Overall, if drinking enough water is a struggle for you, I highly recommend investing in a smart bottle like the Spring. Even though water and I are just not meant to be, we're working through it, and the Spring has definitely been a huge help.
