Only Love Today: Reminders to Breathe More, Stress Less, and Choose Love by Rachel Macy Stafford
Rachel Macy Stafford started the blog Hands Free Mama to encourage mothers (and people, in general) to step away from the computer, put down the smartphone, and be present. Stafford shares some of her inspiration behind her message and her newest book, Only Love Today:
"The message society has led us to believe is that productivity equals success. The more you have to do or say you do, the more successful or important you are perceived. Busyness has become a badge of honor. Technology and the 'badge of busy' of our era have crippled our ability to simply BE . . . to let our thoughts wander . . . to make conversation with the person next to us . . . to be alone with thoughts.
The benefits of slowing down are extensive. First, having space within your day allows for meaningful connection, pursuing your passions, laughing, breathing, resting, and reflecting. Second, slowing down shifts your perspective from superficial measures of success (like money and status) to more meaningful measures of success (like living and loving). Third, because you are not so stressed and hurried, you're able to respond more lovingly to your family members and yourself.
Slowing down and removing the pressure to be anywhere but where you are now is healing, connective, and restorative."
