1 Reebok and Handstand App
Just in time for New Year’s resolutions, Reebok is offering a free personal training session with its top trainers nationwide. The goal is to inspire people to get active. Sign up on the Handstand app (free) through Jan. 20 and use by the end of the month. 2 LeEco Super Bike
I watched the early stages of this bike come together while visiting its headquarters. LeEco, a tech company hoping to rival the likes of Amazon and Samsung, has just unveiled a smarter way to bike ride. A generous 3.9-inch waterproof Android touchscreen display coupled with GPS voice navigation is just the start. This bike (prices vary) is ultra connected, allowing you to track the stats of your workout or check the weather. It is also equipped to keep you safe with LED headlights, taillights, and laser pathway markers that show others when and how to keep a safe distance. My favorite and smartest feature is a fingerprint ID sensor and bike security tracker.
3 Polar Team Pro Shirt
At a recent unveil during CES, Polar (a name known for data-driven activity trackers) showed off its newly developed Polar Team Pro Shirt (pricing not yet available). The fabric of the shirt embeds sensors that monitor heart rate and motion tracking in real time. Made for team sports, the shirt is yet another example of wearable tech popularity to gather individual athlete’s data on speed recovery and effort. In other words, gone are the days of a subpar practice! Note — you may have to be a professional coach or athlete to get your hands on one in March. Stay tuned.
4 KOR Nava Smart Filtering Water Bottle
I’m not a fan of bottled water because we shouldn’t be spending money to ruin the environment! Therefore, I am a little obsessed with these self-filtering water bottles ($22). They feature a coconut shell filtering system (lasts four months), easy one-touch push top, and a nice array of color options.
5 Nitebeams LED Double Vision Headgear
For those late-night runs (which during Winter start at 4:30 p.m.!) stay safe on the road. This double vision running cap ($30) has LED lights on the front and back that turn on and flash with the touch of a button. The lights are visible from up to a quarter of a mile away.
6 Matador Freerain24 Backpack
This packable backpack ($60) is made for the adventurer. Ultra-lightweight at 5.5 ounces, it is also durable with puncture-resistant and breathable straps. Great to pack before you travel, as you never know when you will need that extra bag, and bonus: the main compartment is waterproof!
7 Apple Watch Series 2
Messaging and organization features aside, this is still my best recommendation for anyone wanting to set fitness goals for the new year. This watch has the ability to calculate calories burned, active minutes working out, and many other daily fitness goals. Plus I recommend the Series 2 (starting at $369) just for the waterproof feature. The lap calculation during swims is helpful for the novice to advanced swimmer.
8 Apple AirPods
I’ve been an early tester of AirPods ($159) since the day they were announced and my running videos prove they do not fall out of your ears! Great sound quality and five hours of run time, plus superfast charging in as little as 15 minutes. Additionally, you can double tap to ask Siri to turn up the volume or switch to a new music playlist.
9 Hylete Nimbus Caprite
An avid runner, I often find myself layering clothing on Winter runs only to be overheated and sweating within 10 minutes. The Hylete Nimbus Caprite ($100) is lightweight and versatile with a bottom zipper that instantly transforms into a capri from a full-length tight. Though it is sleek, it also has ample-size pockets that leave room for keys, cards, and even an iPhone 7 Plus.
