FKA Twigs Speaks Out About the Racist Messages Sent to Her on Twitter

On Sunday night, singer FKA Twigs issued a passionate response to the onslaught of racist messages being sent to her on Twitter recently. The British artist, who is currently dating Robert Pattinson, took to the social media platform to speak out about the slew of angry, hurtful comments that have been clogging her feed since the public learned of her relationship with the Twilight star:

I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week.

While we aren't going to post the offensive tweets FKA Twigs is referring to, you can find most of them in her mentions or in Jezebel's roundup here; needless to say, they are pretty awful, and the saddest part is that most of them seem to be coming from self-professed fans of Twilight, Robert, and his former girlfriend Kristen Stewart. In a recent interview with Dazed, the 26-year-old — whose real name is Tahliah Barnett — opened up about being teased while growing up, saying, "Half of my life I've had people staring at me because they think I'm funny-looking and ugly. The other half of my life I've had people staring at me because they think I'm fascinating. Everything neutralizes."
