Valentine's Day Movie Guide: What to See and Who to Take

Yes, La La Land has been out for weeks, so if you still haven't seen it, what are you waiting for?! It's the perfect date movie, whether you're out with a friend, your new steady beau, or your partner of 20 years. Go on, find out what all the fuss is about!

The Space Between Us has gotten lost in the major box office success of Split, but if you like sci-fi films and romance, this is your ticket. The movie follows a teenager (Asa Butterfield) who is born on Mars, then travels to Earth to meet his unsuspecting pen pal (Britt Robertson). If you had to travel to another planet and you could only pick one person to go with you, see this movie with that person.

As I mentioned, M. Night Shyamalan's thriller is killing it at the box office. It's a scary good time, but it's not for the faint of heart. Thus, don't bring anyone who would get mad at you for taking them to see a tense and terrifying movie on the most romantic day of the year.

Find someone who loves The Lego Movie as much as you do and check out the spin-off starring Will Arnett's baritone as the cocky but ultimately very lonely Batman. Rosario Dawson is playing Barbara Gordon, Batman's love interest, so you'll even get a little romance with your animation. (Also, this is a great choice if you happen to be on babysitting duty!)

Do you and your date live for pulse-pounding action? Look no further than John Wick: Chapter 2, the follow-up to 2014's sleeper hit. Keanu Reeves is back as the titular ex-hitman who once again finds himself the target of some violent criminals. Pretend like you're doing your boyfriend a solid by seeing this so he'll let you pick your dinner spot. (Seriously, it has 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, you'll love it.)

You didn't think we'd make a Valentine's Day movie guide without including the most obviously sexy movie on the market, did you? Fifty Shades Darker is finally out, and if you weren't too uncomfortable watching the franchise's first BDSM-focused film, then you can handle this one too. Just don't bring your parents, you weirdo.
