How to Work Out in the Morning

POPSUGAR / advertiser content from / C9 Champion® at Target

If you'd like to start working out in the morning, then you're probably searching for some solid motivation to help you achieve that goal. We partnered with C9 Champion® at Target to highlight exercises that will make you get up and go.

If you're not sure what the best time of day to work out is, that's OK — there are pros and cons to both options; it really depends on your individual needs and energy level. But if you'd like to give early-morning fitness a shot, here are some planning tips and exercise suggestions that will help you get it done.

If you're a morning person . . .

Prep the night before
Before you go to bed, lay out all of your clothes so you can get dressed as soon as your alarm goes off in the morning. This will save you lots of time.

Sign up for a cardio class
You'll be less likely to hit snooze if you've prepaid for a nonrefundable class. Pick something fun and high energy like TRX, HIIT boot camp, or even Zumba class, as the fast-paced music will help wake you up.

Arrange a group run
When your friend is planning to meet you at 6 a.m. for a three-mile jog, you'll be more apt to show up. Accountability is one of the best ways to force yourself to work out when it's early.

If you're not a morning person . . .

If you can't motivate yourself to get up early, consider going during lunch or even in the evening when you won't have to rush.

You can train at lunch
Try carving out some time to head outside and go on a run, walk stairs, or take a class at a nearby studio. You can also do some seated stretches and yoga poses right at your desk if you want to change things up.

Go to the gym straight from work
Don't make the mistake of going home to change before heading to the gym; you'll be too inclined to sit on the couch and unwind, thus talking yourself out of exercising. Bring your stuff to work, and head out straight from the office.

Plan dinner accordingly
You do not want to work up a sweat on a full stomach, so either eat very early (at least an hour before you exercise) or plan for a light dinner after the workout.
