When it comes to washing my hair, I believe less is more, which means I put a lot of faith in dry shampoo. Most people either love or hate dry shampoo, but I've found that it's the one product that helps me manage my hair when I want to extend the time between wash days. Recently, when scrolling TikTok, I came across a viral video of a woman showcasing how one product completely transformed her dirty, wet, and sweaty hair in five minutes flat. Although I've found dry shampoos that work on dirty locks, I've never actually found a product that is effective on dirty and sweaty hair. The product she was hailing as her savior? The Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder Post Workout Dry Shampoo Mist ($31).

The Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder Post Workout Dry Shampoo Mist is a dual-phase, lightweight mist that is formulated to refresh even the sweatiest of hair. It promises to absorb oils, eliminate odors, and even protect hair from the sun. It sounded a little too good to be true, but I figured the only way to know for sure was to test it out for myself.

I have fine, color-treated hair, and the more I wash my hair, the more the color fades. Because of this, I try to go as many days in between washes as possible. I typically only shampoo twice a week, but lately, I've been extending my dirty-hair days and going seven days without washing whenever possible. Usually, I can make it the full week even if I'm working out every day, but it's been so hot in Los Angeles lately — even my morning 20-minute walks have left my hair a sweaty mess. Hopeful (but not too hopeful) that this product would work for me, I tested it out the same day I received it in the mail.

The first time I tested this dry shampoo, I really put it through the wringer. I hadn't washed my hair in six days, and I had spent the better part of that day on the beach. When I came home, my hair looked like an absolute mess, and it felt pretty disgusting to the touch. I figured there was no better time to test out the dry shampoo than when my hair was the grossest it had been in . . . well, ever. Instead of following the instructions on the back of the bottle, I opted to adhere to the process from the TikTok video where I first discovered the product.

To start, I shook the bottle well because I noticed there was separation at the bottom (which is apparently totally normal). From there, I pulled my hair into sections, and any section that was wet with sweat I doused with the product. Since most of the hair touching my scalp was noticeably damp with sweat, I admittedly ended up spraying pretty much my entire head. I then let everything sit and marinate for a good 30 seconds before I blasted my hair with my blow dryer on hot. To finish everything off, I brushed through my hair with a hairbrush.

To be completely honest, I didn't have high hopes for this product, but I was absolutely floored by the results. My hair didn't feel gross or sweaty, and the product had truly soaked up all of the excess oil on my scalp. Plus, it smelled amazing, which was a far cry from the stench just a few minutes prior. My hair was wavy from being at the beach, but I was able to run a curling iron through it and make it look freshly styled. IMHO, the before and after photos are truly shocking.

Since my initial time testing it out, I've tried the product a few more times, and I've always had great results. It's safe to say this is my new go-to dry shampoo any time I'm looking to extend the time in between washes. I think this product is perfect for anyone who frequently has sweaty hair but still wants to skip out on wash day without the entire world knowing. It smells great and leaves hair looking great, which makes it a winner in my book.
