Blake and Ryan met while filming Green Lantern. It was 2010 and both were in relationships — Ryan was married to Scarlett Johansson and Blake was with her Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley — but after filming wrapped, the actors stayed close. "We were buddies," Ryan has said of their relationship at the time.
They realized they had feelings for each other while out with other people. After both of their previous relationships ended, Blake and Ryan met up for a double date — with two totally different people — and realized there was something more there. "She was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl," Ryan said on Entertainment Weekly's Sirius XM show. "That was the most awkward date [from their perspective] probably, because we were just like fireworks coming across."
The two apparently fell in love over food. While out celebrating Ryan's 40th birthday, Blake Instagrammed a photo from the restaurant O Ya. The caption revealed, "We fell in love at your restaurant in Boston. We stay in love at your restaurant in NY."

At some point, dancing in Tribeca was involved. "We were hanging out at this little restaurant in Tribeca that's open really late, and this song came on and I was just like, 'Want to dance?'" Ryan told GQ about the moment he realized he and Blake were actually happening. "No one was in there, so it was just totally empty. And it was just one of those moments where halfway through the dance, it was like, 'Oh, I think I just crossed a line.'"
They got married in secret. On Sept. 9, 2012, Blake and Ryan said "I do" in a private ceremony at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, SC. Martha Stewart had a hand in the planning, and while the only photos released from that day mostly include decor and delicious food, we do know Florence Welch performed and Blake accidentally burned part of her Marchesa dress with sparklers.
