12 Celebrities Who Prove Little Sisters Are the Coolest

Do you have a younger sister? Do you often feel like she's way cooler than you are? If so, you're not alone. There could actually be a scientific explanation for why Solange Knowles's style is so different from big sister Beyoncé's, why Cara Delevingne's antics grab more headlines than her model sister Poppy, and why Kylie Jenner experiments more with her appearance than Kendall does.

Studies have shown that youngest children tend to be more free-spirited, creative, and rebellious. They are also more prone to attention-seeking behavior than their older siblings. According to Dr. Kevin Leman, a psychologist who has studied birth order since 1967, younger kids "get away with murder," as parents tend to be more lenient and tolerant after raising their first child. Because of this, little sisters are easily more outgoing, uncomplicated, and fun-loving. Does this sound like you (or your younger sibling)? Keep reading to see 12 celebrities who seem to live up to their little-sister roles.

Ashlee Simpson

Older sibling: Jessica Simpson

Sometimes it seems like the only thing Ashlee and Jessica have in common is their gorgeous blond hair! From her music career to her relationships to her fashion and beauty choices, Ashlee has cemented herself as the "edgier" Simpson sister. While Jessica sang sugary-sweet pop hits, Ashlee crooned tunes with a more rock and roll sound; Jessica married clean-cut guys like Nick Lachey and Eric Johnson, while Ashlee's partners, Pete Wentz and Evan Ross, are more alternative, hipster-cool types; and even now, when it comes to their style, Ashlee tends to choose trendier silhouettes with a bohemian vibe, while Jessica sticks to sexier shapes and brighter colors.

Solange Knowles

Older sibling: Beyoncé

Even though she and Beyoncé look nearly identical, Solange has always seemed to dance to the beat of a different drum. Child psychologists say that younger children will typically go out of their way to live life differently than their older siblings, purposely moving in a different direction in order to be content on their own terms. This is true with Solange when it comes to her career; instead of going the pop star route like Beyoncé, Solange pours her love of music, style, and culture into DJing, photography, and art curation. In a heartfelt Mother's Day letter to her daughters, Tina Knowles called Solange her "rebel warrior," adding, "Whether in your music, fashion or your life, you truly are your own incredible, unapologetic person."

Sofia Richie

Older siblings: Nicole Richie and Miles Richie

It's probably hard to compete with an older sister like Nicole Richie, but 16-year-old Sofia is doing just fine when it comes to being supercool. The up-and-coming model and style icon recently posed for ASOS Magazine and spoke about her sartorial inspiration, saying, "Fifty percent of my interest in fashion is Nicole, and fifty percent is my mum. Nicole's taught me to be myself with my style, but my mum was the one who took me to Barneys and made me care about fashion." Like Nicole, Sofia has also experimented with hair colors and length, but judging by her Instagram feed and laid-back appearances on Candidly Nicole, her personality may be just a tad more toned down than her big sister's.

Bella Hadid

Older sibling: Gigi Hadid

If you watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, you likely know how different Bella Hadid is from her older sister, Gigi: their mom, Yolanda Foster, has praised Gigi multiple times for being so hardworking and disciplined on the show, and while 18-year-old Bella has built a successful modeling career of her own, she's clearly more carefree and rebellious (one look at her social media photos will provide the proof). Gigi's portfolio is more girl-next-door glam, while Bella's glossy spreads take on a sexier, more vampy vibe. Even their friendships say something about their personalities: Bella pals around with party girls like Miley Cyrus and Hailey Baldwin, and Gigi kicks it with more straight-laced celebrities like Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss.

Khloé Kardashian

Older siblings: Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian

As the youngest of the Kardashian sisters (but the middle sibling of the Kardashian-Jenners), Khloé is the most outspoken and assertive. She doesn't take any crap, and her unique position within the family allows her to be both incredibly commanding and incredibly protective. Like most younger sisters, Khloé's bold, feisty personality gets her tons of attention, and, like Solange Knowles, she is usually the first to step up in support (or in defense) of her siblings when it comes to their successes, setbacks, and controversies — remember that feud with Amber Rose?

Older siblings: Khloé Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kendall Jenner

On a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, after Kylie had purchased her first house, her older sisters sat her down and lectured her about how much work and responsibility it takes to be a homeowner. This is one example of Kylie's naiveté coming into play, as younger siblings tend to be more coddled and taken care of, while also having the most freedom. As the baby of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kylie has tons of people to turn to for advice but often eschews their guidance in favor of going her own way and doing her own thing. Her little-sister status also explains her willingness to experiment with her clothes, hair, makeup, and yes, cosmetic surgery.

Nicky Hilton

Older sibling: Paris Hilton

When it comes to the Hilton sisters, it's sometimes hard to believe that Nicky is, in fact, younger than Paris — her casual style and laid-back attitude definitely pale in comparison to Paris's flashy, colorful personality, and she often comes across as the more mature and focused of the two. But because younger siblings tend to seek out ways to be different from the kid who came before them, it sort of makes sense that Nicky would take the quiet, understated route rather than walk the same over-the-top sexy road as Paris.

Pippa Middleton

Older sibling: Kate Middleton

Of course Pippa Middleton is going to get away with more than her older sister, Kate — she's doesn't have to worry about pissing off the queen. Really, though, Pippa was branded as the "cool, wild sister" from the second she stepped on the scene in a fitted white dress for Kate and William's wedding in 2011. Since then, we've seen her hitting the beach in a bikini, romancing handsome Brits, hanging out in the Hamptons, and sitting courtside with celebrities at Wimbledon. It's pretty great to see Pippa living it up and enjoying a life that's not under a microscope, without the same pressures that her sister faces as the people's princess.

Cara Delevingne

Older siblings: Poppy Delevingne and Chloe Delevingne

The Delevingne sisters are both rooted in the fashion world, but little sister Cara is on a roll when it comes to making headlines. Yes, Poppy lives a more low-maintenance lifestyle with her husband, James Cook, and though she attends the occasional music festival or award ceremony, she's best known for her preppy, polished London style and status as a Fashion Week fixture — in fact, she often pops up in the front row to support her little sister as she stomps the catwalk for Chanel, YSL, and Burberry.

Cara, on the other hand, is undoubtedly the wild child; not only has she surrounded herself with a bevy of fun-loving celebrities like Rihanna, Kate Moss, Suki Waterhouse, and Kendall Jenner, but she's also become something of a social media star thanks to her goofy snaps and penchant for flashing her boobs. She made waves last year when she dated actress Michelle Rodriguez and isn't afraid to stir up trouble with graphic message t-shirts or flipping the bird at photographers. Cara is the ultimate cool little sister, what with her "girls just want to have fun" attitude and "life of the party" personality.

Elle Fanning

Older sibling: Dakota Fanning

The littlest Fanning is following in her big sister Dakota's footsteps when it comes to acting, but she's recently begun taking on roles that are a bit grittier and less expected. Elle has already starred in movies like Ginger & Rosa, Maleficent, and Sofia Coppola's Somewhere and is a rising star in the fashion world, too: she starred in Opening Ceremony's Spring 2015 runway play and regularly rocks offbeat designs from Miu Miu, Rodarte, and Marc Jacobs. She may have originally been known as "Dakota's little sister," but Elle is carving out her own place in Hollywood (and in life) by embracing her quirky, creative style.

Hilary Duff

Older sibling: Haylie Duff

It's hard to imagine Hilary Duff as anything but the It girl of the early 2000s, but she's since emerged as a positive example of child-star success. Perhaps it's because her older sister, Haylie, was right there with her, starring in 7th Heaven, Napoleon Dynamite, and Material Girls. While Haylie has since settled into life as a wife and mother and gained fame as a food blogger, Hilary is embracing her creative side and jumping back into acting and music. She starred in the Lifetime series Younger, and her recent songs "Chasing the Sun" and "Sparks" have shown off her new sexy, single side (she officially split from husband Mike Comrie in February 2015). She also dyed her hair bluish-green, is sporting racy low-cut looks, and has been sharing bikini photos via social media.

Ruby Aldridge

Older sibling: Lily Aldridge

Ruby Aldridge's coolness lies in her edgy career choices and quirky sense of style. While she and older sister Lily are both successful models, Lily's work has been decidedly more sexy and mainstream — she has posed for GQ, covered the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and is currently a Victoria's Secret Angel. Ruby, 23, took a different route with her work, becoming the face of brands like Marc by Marc Jacobs and Valentino and walking over 200 fashion shows to date for designers like Alexander Wang, Chloé, Proenza Schouler, and Stella McCartney.
