Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, a celebrity couple highly beloved by the internet, have called it quits after nearly seven years together. Several news outlets reported on Sept. 3 that Jonas hired a divorce lawyer, and the pair jointly announced their split on Instagram three days later, on Sept. 6. "After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," the two said in a statement. "There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."

The news and subsequent announcement came as a shock to many, especially fans of both Jonas and Turner; the couple, though private, appeared strong together as recently as Aug 16 (as evidenced by an Instagram post from Turner). The pair first connected via DM back in 2016 and began dating in December of that year. Jonas and Turner quickly got engaged less than a year later in October 2017 and secretly tied the knot in a private Las Vegas ceremony, per People. The couple share two children together: Willa (born in July 2020) and another child (born in July 2022), whose name has not been revealed.
