4 Plot Points We Will Definitely See in the Gilmore Girls Reboot

Rory is single at the end of the series, and all of the actors who played her boyfriends are coming back to the cast, "in one way or another," according to Alexis Bledel at Summer TCA. While we don't have too many clues about who — if anyone — Rory ends up with by the end of the reboot, Bledel made a promising pledge: "I think people's questions are answered by the end of it."

Edward Herrmann, the actor who played Richard Gilmore — aka Rory's grandfather, Lorelai's dad, and Emily's husband — sadly passed away in 2014. When the series picks up, though we don't know yet how much time has passed since Richard's death, the characters will be dealing with their grief, and it will affect their lives deeply. When Lauren Graham talked about her love life in the reboot, Graham intimated that his death would inform her choices. ". . . In the wake of losing Ed — which was, and still is, a great loss for us personally — it was also part of our story that we were telling, which was the journey of how everyone is recovering. And that gave the show a depth and emotional complexity, which again to me felt like, 'Here's the show grown up even more.' And I mention that because it plays into all the choices the characters are making, and sort of what they're dealing with, in a new way. So through dealing with that, she makes some decisions."

As the above quote from Graham may imply, Richard's death may propel Lorelai into making certain choices about her love life. While we previously assumed that when we were reunited with Lorelai and Luke, they would still be together (as they were in the finale), Graham's quotes at the TCA have us a little worried about them. "She does have a love life," she said, but added that, "I think, not all the questions have been answered." Well, I guess it's never really been that easy for Lorelai and Luke anyway.

The "final four words" have achieved mythical status for Gilmore Girls diehards. If you're unfamiliar, here's the brief explanation: creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her EP husband Daniel Palladino left the show in 2006, just before its seventh and final season after contract negotiations with The CW didn't work out. Therefore, Sherman-Palladino never got to end the series the way she wanted it to — which included four specific words that she has never disclosed. Our curiosity will be satisfied by the end of the fourth installment of the reboot, when we will all finally hear the final four words.
