When Gaga was announced as the performer for 2015's tribute to Andrews and The Sound of Music's 50th anniversary, a lot of eyebrows were raised. But the moment she began singing with a classical pure soprano, it was jaws that were dropping all across America.

Gaga was nominated for her first Oscar in 2016: best original song for "Til It Happens to You," a gut-wrenching anthem of survival featured in The Hunting Ground, a documentary about sexual assault on college campuses. While she ultimately lost to Spectre's Adele song "Writing's on the Wall," her performance of her song alongside a chorus of assault survivors was the broadcast's most emotional moment.

Gaga performed "Til It Happens to You" with a wide swath of college assault survivors singing at her side. The song is a heavy emotional experience, but the performance wasn't all about the weightiness: Gaga and the rest of the singers posed backstage for this photo.
