Dumbledore and Grindelwald Face Off in the Final "Fantastic Beasts 3" Trailer

According to Variety, the official logline for the film reads: "Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?"

Just like the first two films, which were set in NYC and Paris, respectively, the third film will jump to new locations. Most of the action is split between Berlin, Germany and the kingdom of Bhutan. Some of the movie was filmed in Rio de Janeiro, Germany.

David Yates, who previously worked on the past two Fantastic Beasts movies and a handful of Harry Potter films, will return to direct the third film. The script is by J. K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.

In November 2020, it was announced that Mads Mikkelsen would be replacing Johnny Depp as Grindelwald in the third film. The rest of the cast includes Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore), Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein), Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) as well as Jessica Williams as Professor Eulalie "Lally" Hicks, who will have a significantly larger role in this film.

After a few schedule changes, the movie is now set to release on April 15, 2022.
