2 of Our Favorite Characters Came Back During That Shocking Walking Dead Finale

One of the biggest questions going into the finale was whether or not we'd see Maggie before she rejoined the show as a series regular in season 11. The last time we saw her — outside of Michonne's hallucination — she had left Hilltop to join Georgie's group. At the beginning of the episode, we see her reading a letter, presumably from Carol asking for her help. She finally rejoins the group in the best way possible, saving Father Gabriel from a gruesome death — aka the one where he's stabbed in the comics. We leave her in a heartfelt moment, sharing a hug with Judith Grimes.

After the murder of Alpha, Beta begins to lose his grip on reality, and we wondered if he'd survive the season. He hallucinates that the walkers can actually talk to him as he leads the horde to the survivor community's stronghold. When the community's plan to "Pied Piper" the walkers off of a cliff seems to be in dire trouble, Negan comes to the group's aid, baiting Beta into a fight. Just as Beta seems to gain the upper hand, Daryl arrives to stab him in the head. Beta removes the daggers and has another hallucination as the walkers tear him to pieces. With Beta finally defeated, the chapter on the Whisperers seems closed. It'll be interesting to see who the villain is next season, and it was even better to see Daryl call Beta a nobody.

Connie's fate has been up in the air since the season 10 episode "Squeeze," when she was caught in an explosion while trying to escape a horde of walkers. In the final moments of the finale, we see that Connie actually did survive the explosion. Dazed, she walks through the forest, where she falls at the feet of Virgil's horse. That's right, Virgil is still in the picture as well. This leads us to wonder if Connie will ever actually make it back to Daryl, since Virgil is the one who imprisoned Michonne.

Sadly, Eugene isn't able to meet the love of his life, and potential Commonwealth connection, Stephanie. Team Eugene run into a few obstacles and arrive at the rendezvous point well after the designated time. Just as they accept their fate, the lights come on and they're surrounded by a group of armored and armed people. Eagle-eyed fans will notice that the armor the group wears is that of the Commonwealth from the comics. Here's hoping we get to see more of the Commonwealth in the upcoming season, even if they end up being the new big bad.
