Australian trainer Emily Skye isn't afraid to be brutally honest with her 2 million Instagram followers. The fitness guru and Reebok ambassador, who gave birth to her first child back in December, has already opened up about her emotional struggles with the baby blues, and now, 16 weeks after welcoming her daughter, Mia, she's getting real about how much she's grappled with whipping her postpartum body back into shape.
"A few times I've said to my partner Dec things along the lines of 'why aren't I getting leaner?, 'how come other people get back in shape quickly after giving birth & I didn't?'" the 33-year-old mom recalled in a recent Instagram post. She continued, "I even started to believe what many people tell me, that I won't ever get back in shape. I know it's not true but sometimes I doubt myself & my mindset gets a little unfocused."
Emily went on to acknowledge the fact that she doesn't always practice what she preaches to her social media followers regarding body image. "I often preach loving yourself & your body, not beating yourself up and not comparing to others etc. but sometimes I don't exactly 'walk the talk'. I try to & WANT to but sometimes I forget," she wrote on Instagram.
"If we can't love & care for ourselves, how are we supposed to love & care for others?!"
So how is she coping with these feelings of self-doubt about her lack of postpartum body progress? She constantly reminds herself that her attitude toward her body could end up affecting how her daughter feels about her own body image while growing up. "I want to set a good example for Mia," she wrote. "When I feel like this I remind myself of the things I preach to others — that I should treat myself how I would treat my daughter Mia. I should tell myself what I'd tell her & love myself the way I love her. It's SO hard to do but I believe that's how we should treat ourselves because if we can't love & care for ourselves, how are we supposed to love & care for others?!"
Well, ain't that the truth! It's certainly comforting to know that even superfit health experts like Emily struggle with the postpartum body blues. You're not alone!
