6 Easy Ways to Layer For Fall That You Can Master Right Now
As someone who hates to layer, it's hard to pull off this look as effortlessly as some fashion girls do in the Fall. I always run into several problems, namely what colors to pair together or how to mix prints so it doesn't look like my closet threw up on me. I needed someone to break down easy ways to achieve this look, one that wouldn't involve shopping for entirely new pieces.
So I decided to do the research myself and came up with six possible looks street style stars have been doing forever. I am sightly exaggerating on that last part, but trust me when I say anyone can tackle the layering hacks here. (Turtleneck under a dress? You can totally pull that off!)

Layer With a Turtleneck
Your first instinct when it comes to layering might be wearing a t-shirt under everything. If that's the case, we challenge you to switch it out for a turtleneck instead. As evidenced by a host of street style stars in major cities at Fashion Week, this piece can be just as versatile as a tee. We saw the turtleneck styled under slip dresses and printed dresses, often in solid colors like black or gray. The turtleneck's even a sure way to take a plunging-neckline ensemble into Fall by creating that "fake" higher neckline.

Embrace the Dress-Over-Jeans Look
There's always a new way to wear dresses over jeans, given the new denim styles that arrive with each season. Our favorite pairing happens to be a printed dress with either a cropped or frayed hem, instead of your regular ol' skinnies. We suggest starting with the dress first, then finding that unique denim to wear underneath. If you want to go the extra mile, find a coat to match your entire look.

Wear Furry Coats Over Pantsuit Sets
Pantsuit sets can often stand alone, but once the weather turns more brisk, you'll want to cover up with a jacket. We love the idea of pairing a furry coat over a two-piece set, mixing and matching colors and prints. Take this fashion influencer, who immediately catches your eye with her red-and-black-striped shaggy coat, which she wore with a geometric printed suit set (and green heels!). If you prefer a more subdued ensemble, try wearing a black or beige furry coat.

Wear Your Crop Top Over Something
To take your crop top from Summer to Fall, wear it over another top or dress. One of our favorite looks is taking a cropped hoodie (one you'd normally rock with sweats) and layering that over a button-down or printed slip dress. It's the perfect mix of casual and cool, like you just thought of it instantaneously. If you need some inspiration, take a look at these ladies from Fashion Week who have the outfit combo down to a science.

Layer With a Button-Down
You're probably used to tucking button-downs into your skirt or jeans, but it works as a stylish layering piece too. Chriselle Lim wore hers under a top and pants set, while we've also seen it styled under dresses in lieu of the tee or turtleneck. Most surprisingly, button-downs with exaggerated sleeves look cool when paired with a hoodie (roll up the sleeves) for an out-of-the-office ensemble.

A Corset Isn't Just an Accessory
When styled properly, the corset can add that extra layer to an outfit. Sure, it's meant to cinch in your waist, but you don't have to wear it solely for that reason. We suggest styling it over a coat for that quick street style hit and choosing the accessory in a bold color. If you're looking for a corset, pay attention to the fabric and print too, choosing one that's likely to bring that pop of attention to your look.
