Gear Up For Your Long Training Runs With These 9 Essentials
If you're training for a half, full, or ultramarathon, you've got a schedule full of long runs on the horizon. Being out on the open road for hours can be intimidating, but if you're prepared, you'll feel right at home and more able to focus on your stamina and pace. Gear up for your long runs with all the essentials to keep you comfortable, protected, and pumped up. From sun protection to storage, we've got you covered.
A Waist Pack
Depending on what you're carrying, you'll need a waist pack. Some are small, but stretch to fit your phone, keys, and cards (like this one). Others (below) hold your favorite water bottle, gel packs, and more.
Original SPI Belt ($20)
An Arm Band
An arm band is a great option if you're not carrying too much, or want to separate your phone from your waist pack.
adidas by Stella McCartney Running Media Arm Band ($31)
A Tracker
If you're not using your phone to track your run, try a wrist tracker to get your stats!
Soleus Chicked Digital Running Watch ($44, originally $55)
A Hat
Keep your face protected from the sun when you're outdoors for hours.
Sunglasses
And don't forget to protect your eyes! Any good sunglasses will do, so long as they don't get sweaty on the bridge of your nose or bounce around.
Sunscreen
And of course, don't head out without some SPF protection.
Good Compression Socks
A good pair of socks makes a huge difference. Pick no-shows, ankle, or high socks, depending on your needs and preference.
Asics Women's Quick Lyte Cushion Single-Tab Socks, 3-Pack ($14)
Ear Buds
A good playlist can make a huge impact on how you feel during a run. Get some solid ear buds to pump the jams while you're out for a long jaunt (bonus if they're wireless, like these guys!).
Energy
When you're in it for the long haul, you need a bit of fuel along the way. I've come to love Arbonne Phytosport and nuun tablets in my water, and Honey Stinger organic gel packs.
