10 Warning Signs of a Really Bad First Date

First dates can be a total blast or a complete nightmare, and the gamble is all part of the fun . . . right? For the ones that end up making you tell yourself that you're never dating again, it's always a combination of things that ruined it all. Bad breath is definitely a turnoff, but even that alone isn't always enough to be a dealbreaker. There are other indications that will clue you in to how awful things are really going. If you're on a bad date, you'll probably know it right off the bat, but here are 10 warning signs that a second date is totally out of the question. Check, please!

There are too many awkward silences.

With first-date jitters, it's natural to have some uncomfortable pauses here and there. But if you two are struggling to fill the silence, it could mean you don't have enough common interests. If that's not the case, and it really is just nerves that are getting the best of you, don't be afraid to let them know. They'll probably be relieved that it's not because you don't want to be there.

You two are already disagreeing.

Touchy subjects like politics and religion should be off the table on a first date because of this very reason. If you're both getting fired up, remind yourselves that you're there to have fun. Save the controversial stuff for date number two or three — if you get there. And if you find yourselves arguing over little things, take that as a sign that maybe you're not so compatible.

03
They're taking texts and/or calls.

They're taking texts and/or calls.

Keeping phones on the table during a date is rude enough, but by replying to texts, you're only showing that you'd rather be somewhere else. Politely ask them to put their phone away during your time together. If they can't respect that, we wouldn't blame you for leaving.

04
They're more interested in getting you home than getting to know you.

They're more interested in getting you home than getting to know you.

It's such a turnoff when your date is clearly more into your body than what you have to say. When they're being pushy and already talking about sex before dessert, you know they're only there with one intention.

05
There's zero chemistry.

There's zero chemistry.

The mood is set with some wine and candles, and yet sparks still aren't flying. While physical attraction isn't everything, it is a good indication of whether or not you two have romantic potential.

You're already thinking about the check.

You're already thinking about the check.

If this isn't a telltale sign that you're not enjoying yourself, we're not sure what is. Ask yourself why you're so desperate to leave. Is it because your date is being rude to servers, or is it because you're not giving them a chance?

It feels more like an interrogation than a conversation.

First dates always come with questions and small talk since you're just getting to know each other. But it's a problem if it begins to seem more like a rapid-fire round.

There's a lack of interest.

There's a lack of interest.

It always sucks when you give up your time in hopes of having fun with someone and they're hardly giving you the time of day. Even if you're not into the person whatsoever, it's still courteous to keep the conversation going and play your part until the end of the date.

09
They bring up their exes.

They bring up their exes.

Let's add exes to the list of things you should never bring up on a first date. The purpose of a date is to get to know more about someone new, not dwell on previous relationships. Not only is it an uncomfortable subject, but it also says that you still might be hung up on someone else.

10
They end things early.

They end things early.

If your date is eager to wrap things up, you know that date number two is probably not going to happen. It either shows that they're rude or not really interested in you, and both reasons are enough to call it a night anyway.

Isn't dating fun?
