Dan Savage Debate With Ann Coulter Over Trans Bathroom Laws

Watch Dan Savage Burn Ann Coulter in an Argument Over Trans Bathroom Laws

The transgender bathroom debate isn't slowing down one bit. Bill Maher recently had a few guests on his HBO show — actor Bryan Cranston, conservative pundit Ann Coulter, author and LGBT activist Dan Savage, and journalist Nick Gillespie — to talk about current "hot-button social issues." The conversation turned to the recent bathroom bills in states like North Carolina that say trans people must use the bathrooms that correspond with the gender assigned to them at birth rather than the gender they identify with.

Coulter argued in favor of the bills, saying they would make it easier for molesters to go into public restrooms.

"It's not that transgender people are going to go and molest children. It's that once you say men can go into women's bathrooms — men who are out shopping with their little daughters and don't have Mommy to bring her in there. It's not that the trans are going to molest them, it's that a child molester now has the right to go into that bathroom."

Savage fired back, saying:

"That's bullsh*t. A child molester doesn't need to put on a dress to go into a bathroom. You can google 'sexually assaulted in a restroom' and you get thousands of examples of cisgendered straight men."
