1 MyFitnessPal
The latest version of MyFitnessPal (free) works with HealthKit, the new app built into iOS 8. You can now use your iPhone to track steps in addition to a wearable tracker.
2 Amazon
Sign into the Amazon (free) app with your finger! Use Touch ID (on iPhone 5S, 6, 6 Plus) to sign in instead of typing in a password.
3 Swype
iOS 8 supports custom third-party keyboards! Type like a speed demon with Swype ($1), one of our favorite new keyboards for the new mobile operating system. Best for when you're restricted to only one hand, this app allows you to type without lifting a finger.
4 Evernote
Evernote (free) introduced lots of new features for its iOS 8 update. Premium users can use their fingerprint to protect their Evernote notes via Touch ID. There is now an Evernote extension, so when you're surfing the web in Safari and tap the Share button, an Evernote icon will pop up so you can save content right away. You can also add an Evernote Quick Note bar to your Notification Center, so you can quickly access new note creation and more.
5 1Password
1Password (free for a limited time) creates a random, hypersecure string of numbers and letters as passwords for your accounts and remembers them, then logs you into those accounts through the app. It's now safer than ever with Touch ID fingerprint login and Safari integration. The 1Password mobile Safari extension fills in login credentials directly on the webpages without having to leave the Safari app.
6 NYT Now
NYT Now (free) is an official app from The New York Times with news stories tailored for mobile (they're shorter and easier to digest). It's free to download and comes at a special price ($8 per month, while normal NYT app subscription is $3.75 per week). It works with iOS 8's Handoff, which will let you pick up on your phone from where you left off in your desktop or visa versa (will work when OS X Yosemite launches officially). There are also interactive notifications and iOS 8-friendly widgets.
