The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan Dishes on Negan: He's "the Worst Yet"

The midseason finale of The Walking Dead ends in utter chaos. The good news is that we find out what happens to Glenn, confirming that we were fortunately right about his survival. The bad news? The epilogue teases the arrival of Negan, who's kind of a big deal. Now, we're looking for answers. In preparation for her upcoming horror flick The Boy, we recently interviewed Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene on the show. Of course, we couldn't resist sneaking in a few questions about The Walking Dead. Keep reading to see what we learned from Cohan, then check her out in The Boy, which hits theaters Friday, Jan. 22.

The Cast Always Knew Glenn Would Survive

"We knew he was OK. We don't know what's going to happen in the seasons until we're sort of a few episodes out. We have sort of a vague arc for our characters for the season. But we did know that."

The Is-Glenn-Dead Torture Could Have Been So Much Worse

"The hardest part of it wasn't the mystery but was the tight-lipped business . . . I think there was a consideration of really not telling people or even really pushing it a bit further. You know, Steven going on Talking Dead and pretending that it happened and stuff. Our producers decided where to draw the line in all of this, but we knew."

Negan Will Be the Most Terrifying Villain We've Seen So Far

"We've seen baddies in this show. We saw the Governor, this charming sociopath, basically. Negan is an interesting character . . . there is a rhyme to his reason, it just doesn’t happen to be a rhyme that's very good for our group. I can say that. He runs his town with a very tight rope, or with very tight reins. Yeah, so it's scary . . . [he's] the worst yet."

Glenn and Maggie Will Likely Reunite Soon

"Yeah, we hope so. It's still pretty treacherous in the town right now. So yeah, we're going to have some goods and some bads."

Of All the Awful Moments on the Show, Losing Beth Was the Hardest

"We had such a protracted search for her. And you know . . . Maggie made this decision not to endanger the group to look for her. But then, to eventually find her, it was just very, very drawn out. It was like a slow death rather than a quick one. I think those are the most draining on the soul. And then, you know, Daryl carried her out. It wasn't even a conversation, it wasn't a shock. It was just that this — the end of an epic journey — was bad."

Things Will Improve For Maggie, but Don't Get Too Excited

"It's going to get a little bit better for a minute. But not for long. She made it up onto the tower from the sea of walker hands. So you know, if that can happen, many things are possible. Many things, not anything."
