Fresh off the second season of "Euphoria," Sydney Sweeney has ditched her signature golden hair color for a strawberry blond. On March 1, the actor shared a first look at her character in the upcoming film "National Anthem," a curly redhead with brow-grazing bangs and light freckles. Sweeney is starring as Penny Jo Poplin in the project alongside Halsey, who's making their acting debut.

While out in California the same day, Sweeney was spotted with strawberry-blond hair and what looked to be curtain bangs, suggesting her latest beauty change is here to stay. Later in the week, the actor officially debuted her new coppery red at the Film Independent Spirit Awards on Sunday night, offering a detailed look at her fresh hue. "So . . . I did a thing," she wrote, adding a strawberry emoji alongside photos of her on the red carpet.

Sweeney's red hair was colored by celebrity hairstylist Nikki Lee, who also works with stars like Selena Gomez, Hilary Duff, and Mandy Moore. "We're thinking [strawberry blond] is going to be the hot girl hair color for summer," Lee said. "It was an easy transition for her because I had already previously colored her blonde . . . it allowed the color to really pop! It's the color everyone always wants to try, but never does. Now everyone is into taking more risks and trying new things." Lee collaborated with Sweeney's hairstylist, Florido Basallo, who cut the star's bangs. "It was important to Sydney that she looked different from Cassie in 'Euphoria,'" she added.

Since Sweeney entered the scene a few years ago, this is the first time we've seen such a dramatic transformation from the actor. But while we may know Sweeney as a resident blonde, her natural hair color is actually dark brown, which she sported in the early days of her acting career.

Red hair has certainly been a popular choice for many celebrities as of late. Kendall Jenner dyed her hair a similar warm, coppery hue for the Prada show during Milan Fashion Week just a few days ago, while Sweeney's "Euphoria" costars Zendaya and Barbie Ferreira also went red back in December. The major hair-color trend took off at the start of 2021 and has yet to slow down since. Get a closer view of Sydney's new beauty look ahead.
