The 18 Most Exciting New TV Series Premiering During October

New Girl fan favorite Max Greenfield (better known by New Girl fans as ladies' man Schmidt) will star in this new CBS series as a friendly Midwesterner who moves to a tough new neighborhood in LA, only to discover that his Midwestern charm doesn't quite have the same effect on his new neighbors. Cedric the Entertainer will costar, with The Big Bang Theory's Jim Reynolds producing. Watch the trailer, and then try to tell us you wouldn't want Schmidt as your new next-door neighbor.

Max Greenfield isn't the only New Girl alum getting his own CBS show. Damon Wayans Jr., who plays on-and-off-again roommate Coach, will star alongside Amber Stevens West as a suburban husband-and-wife duo whose mundane routine is shaken up by an emerging pop star (played by Ben Kirk) who takes up residence in their home. If that premise doesn't sound bizarre enough, then how about the fact that Harry Styles is one of the show's executive producers? As strange as this show sounds, the trailer actually looks pretty promising.

Based the book I Feel Bad: All Day. Every Day. About Everything by Orli Auslander, this new NBC sitcom will follow a wife, mother, and career woman (played by Sarayu Blue) who struggles to balance everything and must compromise her own standards in order to "have it all." With Amy Poehler as one of the executive producers, you know this one is going to be good. Check out the trailer to see why we're so excited about this incredibly timely series.

Premiere date: Oct. 4

Hulu is debuting a unique horror anthology series, with each episode inspired by a holiday from the month in which it's released. With its first episode released in October, you can expect a Halloween-themed episode, set in Los Angeles with Tom Bateman and Rebecca Rittenhouse starring. Though the trailer doesn't reveal much about what else is to come, it certainly looks terrifying.

Premiere date: Oct. 5

In this spinoff of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, celebrity kids are paired with professional junior ballroom dancers to learn routines and perform for a panel of ballroom experts, with actors and DWTS alums Frankie Muniz and Jordan Fisher hosting. Kiddie competitors will include Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, Tripp Palin, Miles Brown from Black-ish, and Dance Moms alum Mackenzie Ziegler, among others. Even if you're skeptical, you should at least check out the promo video.

Premiere date: Oct. 7

If you've been waiting for a new Friday Night Lights, then you should definitely check out this new CW series about a South Central high school football player who is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High School, causing some major class tensions and new rivalries. Broadway veteran Taye Diggs is set to star, with Teen Wolf's Samantha Logan and Pretty Little Liar's Cody Christian also appearing. The trailer proves that the CW never fails to bring the drama.

Premiere date: Oct. 10

Based on the 1959 Shirley Jackson novel of the same name, this supernatural Netflix original series follows the five Crain siblings as they struggle to come to terms with their childhood, when a house-flipping gone wrong left their mother dead and the children haunted. Mike Flanagan is on board as director and executive producer, while the cast is led by Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Elizabeth Reaser, Kate Siegel, and McKenna Grace. The trailer alone has us convinced this might be the scariest new show on TV.

Premiere date: Oct. 12

This Amazon Prime anthology — produced by Mad Men's Matthew Weiner — follows the lives of eight individuals who claim to have descended the Russian imperial family, the House of Romanov. The cast and creative team are full of Mad Men alums (including Christina Hendricks and John Slattery, who both star in the series), and other members of the incredibly impressive cast include Diane Lane, Isabelle Huppert, Jack Huston, Amanda Peet, Aaron Eckhart, Marthe Keller, Corey Stoll, Andrew Rannells, and Paul Reiser. If the cast doesn't already have you convinced, then you should check out the trailer.

Premiere date: Oct. 12

The CW is rebooting the original WB series of the same name that ran from 1998 to 2006, this time starring Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery. The show revolves around three sisters who discover that they are the three most powerful witches in existence after their mother's death, and that they must use their powers to vanquish supernatural demons. The trailer is drawing a lot of mixed reviews, so only time will tell whether this reboot will be able to match the original!

Based on the UK series of the same name created by Julia Davis, this new HBO show follows husband-and-wife duo Kathryn and Walt Siddell-Bauers (played by Jennifer Garner and David Tennant) as their weekend camping trip to celebrate Walt's birthday gathers some unexpected tagalongs and plenty of drama. The show was written and executive produced by Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, the team behind HBO's Girls, with Brett Gelman, Arturo del Puerto, Juliette Lewis, Ione Skye, and Bridget Everett also appearing. The trailer has us totally ready for the great outdoors.

30 Rock's Alec Baldwin will have his own talk show on ABC, and it's kind of a big deal, since it's the first time a personality talk show has nabbed a prime time slot on a major broadcast network since NBC's The Jay Leno Show ended in 2010. This will be Baldwin's second talk show (he previously had Up Late With Alec Baldwin on MSNBC in 2013), and possible guests might include Stephen King, Al Pacino, Barbra Streisand, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, and Bruce Springsteen. The promo has us curious to see how Baldwin's second talk show will fare.

Unless you've been living under a rock, then you've probably heard that this Roseanne spinoff will not feature the titular Roseanne Barr, due to the star's racist tweets and ABC's subsequent cancellation of the show. Instead, The Conners will follow the original cast as they contend with the sudden death of the family's matriarch. The teaser reveals little, but it will be interesting to see how the show fairs without its lead.

Premiere date: Oct. 16

Grounded For Life meets That '70s Show in this new sitcom about a blue-collar, Irish-Catholic family of 10 growing up in the tumultuous 1970s and struggling to maintain their traditional values. Mary McCormack and Michael Cudlitz will star as Mike and Peggy Cleary, who try to keep sane among a household with eight boisterous boys and one bathroom. Just watching the trailer stresses us out.

Premiere date: Oct. 16

ABC's upcoming series The Rookie is based on the true story of John Nolan (played by Castle's Nathan Fillon) who, at 40 years old, decides to move from his small town to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. Not only is the story totally original, but the cast is also refreshingly diverse — just check out the trailer.

Premiere date: Oct. 16

Though we're not sure we've ever seen a spinoff of a spinoff before, that is just what Legacies is. This drama will center around Hope Mikaelson (reprised by Danielle Rose Russell) in a spinoff of The Originals (which followed Hope's father and his two siblings), which is a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries. This new CW series will pick up two years after the events of The Originals, with a now-17-year-old Hope attending the Salvatore School For the Young and Gifted, and we'd be lying if we said we weren't intrigued by the trailer.

Premiere date: Oct. 25

This new Netflix original series will get the Riverdale treatment, offering a dark new twist on the Archie comic book character Sabrina as she is forced to choose between the human world and the witch world as her 16th birthday nears. Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men's Sally Draper) will lead the cast as the titular Sabrina Spellman, and just a look at the trailer will assure you that this reboot will be very different than the Melissa Joan Hart version.

Premiere date: Oct. 26

The outspoken and hilarious Busy Philipps is coming to E! with her own talk show, which will combine celebrity guest interviews, original comedy segments, and Philipps's own commentary on the latest pop culture stories and trending topics. Though we're not yet sure which of Philipps's many celebrity gal pals may appear on this show, we're still all kinds of excited to see her in action.

Premiere date: Oct. 28

Starring The Daily Show alum Hasan Minhaj, this weekly comedy show will give Minhaj a platform to discuss our modern cultural and political landscape each week, with an impressive 32 episodes already ordered by Netflix for the first season. Minhaj is also credited as an executive producer on the series, alongside cocreator Prashanth Venkataramanujam, Michelle Caputo, Shannon Hartman, and showrunner Jim Margolis. The promo already has us believing this show will be different from any show of its kind.
