11 New Shows We Can Recommend Based on Stuff You Already Love

Fox's The Exorcist isn't quite as gross or terrifying as American Horror Story, but it will give you chills. It's an especially good fit for your new primetime schedule if you're already prone to TV shows and movies about exorcisms.

Realistic family dynamics are at the center of this new drama, written by Crazy, Stupid, Love scribe Dan Fogelman. While the characters are much different that the Braverman family, there's no way you can watch this show and not think of Parenthood's tender moments.

When it starts: Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 10 p.m. on NBC, then Tuesdays at 9 p.m. beginning Oct. 11

Son of Zorn continues the trend of cartoons for adults, and this one is a strange but welcome live-action hybrid. Zorn is voiced by Jason Sudeikis, and the fact that he's an animated warrior seems not to phase anyone around him . . . kind of like how BoJack lives in a totally normal world of talking animals.

When it starts: Sunday, Sept. 25, at 8:30 p.m. on Fox

The CW is slowly trading in its supernatural dramas for romantic comedies, and this is the latest offering. While No Tomorrow is more grounded in reality than Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the premise is just as bizarre: boy meets girl, boy believes the world is ending, boy and girl go on adventures together.

When it starts: Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. on The CW

This is a bit of a stretch, but they're more action-adventure shows led by strong female characters in law enforcement roles. Both shows also start with a huge central mystery (in Frequency's case, a woman discovers an old radio allows her to speak to her dead father) and cover different periods of time.

When it starts: Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 9 p.m. on The CW

A tough female fighting for respect in the male-dominated world of sports? You could be talking about either USA's gone-but-not-forgotten Necessary Roughness or the new baseball show Pitch. While the latter truly is something we haven't seen on the small screen yet, both shows attempt to break down gender barriers.

When it starts: Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. on Fox

Speaking of female-led shows, Conviction takes ABC's former Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell and puts her at the head of a task force in charge of overturning false convictions. The character also happens to be the former president's daughter, meaning you'll get a heavy dose of politics and drama with a side of lawyer talk. It's very similar to Scandal, but hopefully with less adultery.

When it starts: Monday, Oct. 3, at 10 p.m. on ABC

Modern Family has been going strong for so long, but isn't it time to add a new suburban comedy to your schedule? American Housewife is a charming and tongue-in-cheek look at what it's like to constantly be competing for the title of best mom in today's world.

When it starts: Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 8:30 p.m. on ABC

Murder! Scandals! Sexy people! It's all there in ABC's Notorious, a soapy series about a TV producer and a high-stakes lawyer who help each other spin cases and stories to their mutual advantage. While not as culturally poignant as How to Get Away With Murder, this show will also teach you how to get away with murder.

When it starts: Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. on ABC
