Edible cookie dough has utterly taken over the food scene this year, populating our Instagram feeds in all its sugary, sprinkles-topped glory. Case in point: ever since Dō Cookie Dough Confections opened a storefront in New York City earlier this year, the lines have consistently been out the door, proving that the cookie dough craze isn't dying down anytime soon. Because who can resist the nostalgic flashbacks to licking the mixer beaters clean while whipping up a batch of baked treats? That's right — no one.
While these trendy desserts are 100 percent safe to eat, as they don't pose a risk of contracting salmonella, that doesn't necessarily mean they're nutritious. So when we stumbled upon a healthier, premade version from P.S. Snacks, we could barely contain our excitement.
Gluten-free foodie Nikki Azzara launched P.S. Snacks back in 2014 after refining her very own chickpea cookie dough recipe in her college dorm room. She now sells the edible dough in three mouth-watering flavors — Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, and Fudge Brownie — each of which is gluten-free, vegan, and plant-based. Now that's what we call a triple whammy!
We're all for eating cookie dough by the spoonful, but Nikki has also devised a crave-inducing variety of recipes for the dough that are so much better than just plain ol' cookies. From Rocky Road Cookie Bark (say what?!) and Peanut Butter Power Bites to a Microwave Mug Muffin (OMG) and Cocoa Banana Smoothie, it's safe to say this cookie dough is way more versatile than we may have initially thought.
Although based in Washington DC, Nikki's heaven-sent treats are also on sale in a handful of Whole Foods stores throughout Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and Kentucky. In addition, the edible cookie dough is available for select zip codes through Jet.com, and the P.S. Snacks website will soon offer an ecommerce option! There are two sizes available to satisfy all your snacking needs: 12-ounce containers for $9 or 3-ounce snack cups for $3.
Considering our undying obsession with any and every healthy snack we can possibly get our hands on, we can't wait to order these babies in bulk to try them for ourselves.
