At just 5'2", finding workout leggings that don't bunch up at the bottom of my feet is close to impossible — unless it's a capri style. This constant struggle limits me to shop mostly at four stores that offer complimentary alteration services. Thankfully, they're brands I love and wear often, and the best part is that one of them (spoiler: it's Nordstrom) offers a variety of lines, from Ivy Park to Alo, in its Active department.
If you also experience short-girl problems, the four stores below are here to provide you with the perfect fit.
- Nike: Customers with a NikePlus Membership (free to join) can enjoy complimentary hemming at the time of purchase. If your item is a few months old, the store may honor it with proof of purchase. Only Nike Elevated stores, including San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, offer this service, and turnaround is usually within a few days.
- Athleta: With the purchase of any priced legging bought online or in store, customers are honored with a free hem. Visit any Athleta store and ask a studio stylist to size you, and it'll be ready for pick-up by the following week.
- Nordstrom: Nordstrom has a fantastic Alterations department that will generally do a free hem on most full-priced products bought through the company, and its workout wear is no exception. Head to the Active department (or anywhere else in store) and ask an employee to call Alterations for you. A tailor will meet you in the fitting rooms shortly to pin your pants and provide you with a quote. Again, as long as the item is full-priced and you can provide proof of purchase, it should be free of cost. Depending on how busy they are, your leggings will be available to pick up in one to three weeks.
- Lululemon: Enjoy complimentary hemming on tops and pants at all Lululemon stores. Try on the item, have a store educator pin the length for you, and it'll be ready for pickup within three (for stores) to seven (for showrooms) days.
