Set a Fitness Goal Unrelated to Weight Loss

When you're focused on losing weight, it's easy to get frustrated when the pounds don't melt off right away. All too often, we psych ourselves out and quit before we really get started. Try instead to set a goal of jogging a mile without stopping or completing 20 full-body push-ups. Adjust the goal to be challenging for your current fitness level. When you start looking at your body in terms of how strong and fit you are, you'll be more likely to stay on track.

Pack Your Lunch, and Eat at Home More Often

The calories and sodium alone when you eat dinner out are enough to make most people feel bloated and tired when they wake up. By aiming to cook your dinner at home and brown-bagging your lunch, you'll have a better sense of what you're eating and improved mood and energy.

Create a Motivational Phrase

What do you want to be in 2020? Maybe it's be more efficient or less stressed, but whatever it is, you can create a motivational phrase to help you achieve it. Tell yourself that YOU ARE capable every morning when you wake up, and repeat your own personal motivational phrase to yourself before you get out of bed.

Make Desserts and Alcohol Special-Occasion Treats

Although Champagne Thursdays and cookies at lunch may have been your thing in 2019, you'll have a much healthier year if you can save the drinks and sweets for parties and holidays. You might even find you enjoy a glass of wine and piece of cake more when it's a rare occurrence! Your indulgence factor for taking in the extra calories won't exist because you'll have saved them for when they really count.

Get Your Sleep On

There's no question that a good night's sleep sets you up for a healthier days, weeks, months, and year. Figure out what your biggest deterrents to sleep are, and come up with a system to change them. Maybe it's turning off your phone two hours before bed or taking your TV out of your bedroom. Whatever it is, make the effort to get in those zzz's, and your body will thank you!
