I'm a Fitness Editor and These Are the Workouts I Do

As a fitness editor, I'm incredibly lucky to have a job that encourages me to be my healthiest and fittest self. And with so many amazing studios around San Francisco, it's impossible to squeeze every workout into my schedule. However, I do make it a priority to do a combination of my favorites each week to give me the best balance of strength training, cardio, and recovery. For example, I'll follow an intense HIIT workout with a low-impact class like barre or yoga the next day. If you're looking for ways to mix up your own routine, see four of my go-to workouts ahead!

Barry's Bootcamp

The red lights, blaring music, and fast pace — I love it all. Barry's Bootcamp did the impossible by making me love working out, thanks to its unique HIIT format split between 30 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes of strength training. I've been hooked ever since my first class. If you want your ass kicked every single time, Barry's is for you.

Barre

I like to fit barre classes in between days of high-intensity workouts to allow me to rest and tone. Since core work is the foundation of basically any other exercise (and essential for preventing injury), I consider weekly barre classes a must. Although the movements and weights are tiny, I definitely feel their effects the next morning. I also admittedly schedule this workout around my hair-washing schedule since I rarely get too sweaty in these classes.

Boxing

Boxing consists of quick bursts and light cardio in between, which is sort of the same style HIIT classes try to mimic. I can always count on boxing classes for an all-in-one cardio and strength training session that leaves me exhausted like nothing else. The fact that boxing gloves make you look totally badass doesn't hurt, either.

Hot Yoga

Nothing makes me feel better than a sweaty, hot yoga class. Although sweating doesn't actually flush toxins out from your body, I can't help but feel cleansed from the inside out after dripping buckets for nearly an hour. Most traditional yoga classes are honestly too slow-paced for my taste, which is why I love Ritual Yoga's unique candle-lit flow to the beat of music.
