Selena Gomez Shuts Down Body Shamers: "I Am Perfect the Way I Am"
Grammy-nominated singer and "Only Murders in the Building" star Selena Gomez recently shared a video on TikTok Stories in response to body shamers.
"So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box, and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings, and a spicy chicken sandwich," she says in the video. "But honestly, I don't care about my weight, because people b*tch about it anyway: 'You're too small, you're too big, that doesn't fit, meh meh meh meh.'"
At the end of the video, Gomez looks confidently into the camera and says, "B*tch, I am perfect the way I am. Moral of the story? Bye."
This is far from the first time Gomez has spoken about being body shamed and criticized over her appearance. Through it all, she's been focused on maintaining a positive attitude and embracing herself. "I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove," she posted on Instagram in 2015 on the subject of her weight gain. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, she said, "The reason why I did [the 2015 Instagram post] is because I didn't want [body shamers] to win. 'Cause then, the next day, it wasn't about how I gained weight. It was about how I embraced it. And that's just kind of my approach."
Gomez has also been vocal about her experience with lupus (a chronic autoimmune disease), her kidney transplant, and her bipolar disorder diagnosis, even launching the mental health platform Wondermind to help others.
Gomez isn't the only celeb to address body shaming. Recently, Camila Cabello opened up about feeling "vulnerable" and "unprepared" while getting photographed by paparazzi in a bikini. Gomez shared the below TikTok video in support, with the caption, "Love my girl Camila."
