Samantha Bee Reaction to Donald Trump Winning the Presidency
Sam Bee Nails It, Promises Nasty Women Aren't Going Anywhere in First Post-Election Show
Samantha Bee, like many, was pretty certain that Hillary Clinton win the 2016 presidential election. Now, in the days following the election, she's letting out all the shock and anger.
In her first Full Frontal monologue since the election, Bee described the mood in her diverse writer's room. While popular belief often argues that comedy is best in times of hardship, Bee said pretty much the opposite. "Believe it or not, this isn't a great day to be part of the most diverse staff on late night," she said. "They're not in a very jokey mood."
Despite the low morale, Bee and her writers did manage to turn out some pretty spot-on jokes — like when she compared this election to an above-ground pool. "Our democracy just hoiked up a marmalade hairball with the whole world watching. What we did was the democratic equivalent of installing an above-ground pool," she said. "Even if we're lucky and it doesn't seep into our foundation, the neighbors will never look at us the same."
While we love Bee's incensed rants — which are gloriously present in this video — Bee ultimately ended her monologue on a positive note, reminding viewers that there are plenty of powerful and progressive women following in Clinton's footsteps. Bee added, "If Ms. Rodham's not in the White House, that's OK — one of those girls is going to be. We still have millions of nasty women who aren't going away." She added, "As long as women over 25 are still allowed on television, I'll be here cheering them on."
