8 Questions We Need the Roseanne Reboot to Answer

The final season of Roseanne is a weird one. It's revealed in the two-part finale that Roseanne has been writing her life as a book — that in fact the entire show has been her book version of her real family. So Roseanne reveals that she took creative license with a few things, like that she thought Darlene belonged with David, but Darlene was actually with Mark, and same for Becky — Becky was actually with David.

Also, her mom is not gay (her sister Jackie is), her son DJ goes to college, Becky and Mark are expecting a baby, and Dan really does die of a heart attack at Darlene's wedding.

It was quite the unusual way to end a series. So, what about all that when the series returns? Well, the short answer is that the writers are basically ignoring season nine, even though the creators won't come out and say that in such blunt terms.

The show establishes that Darlene and David have two kids together, but details are scarce about anything else. How long were they married? When and why did they get divorced? Where does David live?

Actor Johnny Galecki is obviously a bit busy on a little CBS show called The Big Bang Theory, so he can't be there for the entire revival, but he will appear on one episode, so hopefully that will clear some things up about Darlene and David.

When the revival picks up, Becky is a widow. The producers told us they wanted to make that choice to honor Glenn Quinn's memory; the actor who played Mark on the original series died in 2002.

But will we get more details about what exactly happened to him? And what about the fact that they were expecting a baby in the series finale? That's probably going to be one of those season nine things that the new show ignores.

If you'll recall, in the season eight Halloween episode, Roseanne gives birth to her and Dan's fourth child, Jerry Garcia Conner. He would now be 22 years old, but he is not part of the revival (yet). He is currently working on a fishing boat in Alaska, per the creators at the 2018 Winter TCA panel.

As of now, the reboot is nine episodes, airing in the Spring on ABC. Nothing has been decided beyond that, but the cast and creators are definitely up for some more.

"We had so many stories to tell over the arc of these nine episodes that we were hoping for another season to bring more clarity to [all the] characters," said Roseanne Barr, of things they couldn't get to during this initial run.

There's no word yet on even a second season, let alone plot points, but no show has ever done Halloween as well as Roseanne did, so we are guessing if there is a season two for the revival, and if they can air it in the Fall, they will include a Halloween episode. It would be a crime not to.
