I don't know about you, but I love to keep my vegan diet varied by frequently adding new healthy vegan snacks. I have always been a devout snacker, but after I went vegan, I became even more adventurous in my habits. It's as if nothing scares me now; I'm always down to try a new vegetable- or fruit-based snack, especially if it's like nothing I've tasted before. That means I'm always on the hunt for snacks that pack flavor without a ton of added salt, sugar, or anything too processed. These new vegan snacks are mostly healthy in just that way, so you can snack away without feeling crappy after.

Cassava Yogurt

Cassava Yogurt

The new plant-based Lavva Yogurt ($3) is pretty unique — even for a vegan yogurt. It's made with cassava, pili nuts, plantains, and coconut milk, and comes in flavors like blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, and raspberry.

Quinoa Cereal

Quinoa Cereal

I love cereal, but I don't like how most brands have a ton of added sugar or salt. Quinoa Queen cereal ($30 for 4 boxes) is the cleanest cereal I've found that isn't just plain puffed rice. Made only of quinoa, purists can get the unsweetened version, while sugar fans can get the lightly-sweetened variety or citrus version.

Raw Carob Kibble

Raw Carob Kibble

This The Australian Carob Co. Raw Carob Kibble ($6) is chewy and naturally sweet. It's filled with fiber, and has a really unique taste that hits that sweet spot.

Dried Sweet Potatoes

Dried Sweet Potatoes

I found this unusual snack on a recent trip to Japan. Stateside, you can buy CJW Korean 100% Dried Sweet Potato ($12) in its unsweetened or sweetened variety.

Not-Too-Sweet Flavored Almond Butter

Not-Too-Sweet Flavored Almond Butter

I love the (women-owned) company Base Culture for making interesting flavors of almond butter without a bunch of added sugar. The cinnamon flavor ($10) makes your oatmeal smell and taste like a cinnamon bun, and the maple flavor is only barely sweetened, making it great with some fruit or ice cream for dessert.

Bean Cereal

Bean Cereal

These Love Grown Original Power O's ($15) are made of a blend of beans — and, yes, you can taste them. I'm into it with some nuts and fruit, and find it fills me up nicely thanks to all its protein and fiber! They also have chocolate and strawberry flavors, if you want a more disguised bean-cereal version.

Bittergourd Chips

Bittergourd Chips

I found these Anand Bittergourd Chips ($4) at my local Indian grocery, and they were so weird, yet oddly addictive. They are spicy, crispy, and just amazingly flavorful without any salt.

Tuna Vegan Sushi

Tuna Vegan Sushi

My partner was so excited when he tried this Ahimi vegan tuna from Ocean Hugger Foods that he actually couldn't stop talking about it. I have to agree: this stuff is amazing. The vegan tuna is made from tomato and is the same texture and taste as the fish. You can find it at select Whole Foods.

Raw Vegan Cups

Raw Vegan Cups

These raw Hail Merry cups ($3) are a great snack to cut up into little pieces and serve when you have people over. All the flavors are good, but my favorite is probably the dark chocolate espresso. While it might be a stretch to call them healthy, as far as desserts go, this is a whole food-based treat that gets most of its sweetness from maple syrup.

Jackfruit Carnitas

Jackfruit Carnitas

Jackfruit is an amazing whole-food meat-replacer with the texture of pulled chicken, pork, and other animal flesh. Upton Naturals makes a ton of delicious pre-made jackfruit, and its Chili Lime Carnitas ($6) variety is perfect for tacos. They even make an unseasoned variety, so you can add your own sauce to the pre-shredded jackfruit.

Unsweetened Sunflower Seed Spread

Unsweetened Sunflower Seed Spread

I'm addicted to the Trader Joe's Sunflower Seed Spread ($5)! It's just the right amount of salty without being sweetened, like most kinds.

Fermented Food

Fermented Food

When you want something salty, sometimes a bite of slaw really does the trick. You can put together your own snack sampler from BAO (we like the Best of Bao, $43) and have everything from pickle shots (a great martini mixer or shot chaser), fermented ketchup, slaw, hot sauce, and, of course, kombucha.

Vegan Black Cherry Greek Yogurt

Vegan Black Cherry Greek Yogurt

This Kite Hill Black Cherry Greek Yogurt is basically dessert. It really is a thick, tart, Greek-style yogurt without the dairy. I also like the unsweetened kind of the yogurt for breakfast with some cereal, fruit, and nut butter.

Frozen Coconut Chunks

Frozen Coconut Chunks

Trader Joe's Just Coconut Chunks ($2) are meant for your smoothie, but I actually like a chunk plain out of the freezer as a coconut ice cream-tasting snack.

Truffle Marcona Almonds

Truffle Marcona Almonds

My friend who's fancy introduced me to Trader Joe's Truffle Marcona Almonds ($7), and they are so, so good.

Peanut Milk

Peanut Milk

I've tried just about all the vegan alternatives to milk out there, and this is one of the newest and most interesting types. Elmhurst Milked Peanuts ($6) is the first peanut milk sold in the US and perfect to pour on some cereal with bananas.
