Want to see a Broadway wanna-be return to her humble roots in Wisconsin? Or maybe you'd rather see two underprivileged Mumbai teens become the protégés of a ballet master? Whether they're comedies or dramas, movies with a dance element are undeniably fun, and these new titles on Netflix in 2020 will definitely get you on your feet.
Feel the Beat
Descendants actress Sofia Carson stars in this dance comedy as April, an aspiring performer who — after she fails to land a role on Broadway — returns home to Wisconsin, where she's tasked with training a group of young outcasts for a major dance competition. Though she's reluctant to do so, that changes when she learns that the competition gives her an opportunity to perform in front of Broadway producer Welly Wong, who could potentially save her dance career.
Set in Mumbai, this Hindi-language film tells the story of two underprivileged yet talented teens whose abilities are discovered by an eccentric ballet master. The experienced teacher recruits the aspiring dancers and helps hone their skills with proper training, but their shared dream of becoming professional dancers is challenged by the bigotry and disapproval they face from their families and their community.
Sabrina Carpenter, Liza Koshy, and Jordan Fisher star in this feel-good comedy about high school senior Quinn, who dreams of getting into Duke University, the college her late father attended. During an interview with the admissions rep, Quinn lies and says she's part of her school's famous dance team, and the rep responds that a win in an upcoming dance competition could be her key to getting into the school. The only problem: Quinn is totally uncoordinated, and she has to recruit a ragtag group of dancers to help her dance to victory.
Bhangra Paa Le
This Hindi-language dramedy revolves around Jaggi, a young man with a passion for Bhangra, which is a type of traditional dance originating in the Majha area of Punjab. According to his grandfather, one has to fall in love before they're able to perform the main move in Bhangra, the "jhoomar," and Jaggi thinks he may have found his chance at love after meeting Simi — that is, until he and Simi discover that they are from rival colleges in the international Bhangra competition.
