Instead, start building a more sustainable habit of walking regularly, says Laura Norris, MS, CPT, an RRCA-certified run coach. Doing so will help build up your aerobic fitness, strengthen your musculoskeletal system, and get you used to spending more time on your feet, all of which will make the transition to running much easier, she explains. Aim to walk for about 30 minutes at least three days a week, she suggests.
