The Tragic TV Deaths From This Year That Punched You Right in the Gut

We're not even halfway through 2018, but it's already been a rough year for TV fans. Aside from having to say goodbye to our favorite shows, we've also had to say goodbye to a few of our favorite characters. Even though there have only been two deaths so far, they've been incredibly brutal. Seriously, how will we ever recover from Jack's death on This Is Us? And now there's talk about another possible death in the season two finale. Relive the saddest character deaths on TV ahead.

Carl, The Walking Dead

After fans found out that Carl was bitten by a walker during the first half of season eight, his fate was sealed during the midseason premiere. Not only is it sad to see his character go, but his emotional goodbyes to Rick and Michonne certainly don't make the scene any easier.

Jack, This Is Us

We already knew that Jack wasn't alive in present day, but finding out the tragic way he actually dies broke our hearts even more. After escaping a house fire, the Pearson family patriarch dies suddenly from a widow maker's heart attack in the hospital.

Carol, Timeless

Sure, Carol was one of the villains of the show, but she was still Lucy's mother. After going on a trip with the rest of the Rittenhouse to get Jiya back, she is eventually double-crossed by Emma and gets shot. She eventually dies in Lucy's arms.

Rufus, Timeless

Though Jiya prophesies Rufus's death earlier this season, we still had hope that it wouldn't actually happen. Even though he escapes getting stabbed like in Jiya's original vision, fate catches up to him and he is shot by Emma a few moments later. Thankfully, there's a chance that his death will be reversed in the the show's two-hour finale in December as the Time Team goes back in time to save Rufus.

Rumple, Once Upon a Time

In the series finale of the show, Rumple finally finds the courage to be the better man by sacrificing himself for his friends. As Hook slowly dies from his poisoned heart, Rumple decides to take out his own heart and give it to his former enemy. Not only does the act of heroism end his own life, but it also finally gets rid of his dark ego once and for all as he disintegrates to dust.

Elijah and Klaus, The Originals

After absorbing the darkness that was in Klaus's daughter Hope, the vampire brothers die side by side so that their family can finally be at peace.

Hayley, The Originals

After binding her werewolf side in an effort to save her daughter, Hayley becomes a full vampire and therefore vulnerable to the sun. As she's confronting Greta, Hayley decides to sacrifices herself by tearing off Greta's daylight ring and throwing themselves both into the sun to burn.
