After drawing intense criticism for wearing designer stiletto heels to visit the victims of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Melania switched into a pair of Adidas Stan Smiths. She wore the cult-favorite sneakers with black jeans, a white button-down, and a baseball cap that read "FLOTUS." If Melania showed any signs of distress over people's reactions to her fancy footwear, you couldn't tell — she was wearing sunglasses.

For her second visit to Texas following Hurricane Harvey in September 2017, Melania stuck to a sensible pair of sneakers. This time, it was a pair of green Converse, which she wore with a "Texas" hat, skinny jeans, and blue button-down.

During a visit to Florida in September 2017, Melania debuted a pair of white Converse. She coordinated in a white cap and jeans and, once again, paired a simple button-down with the outfit.

Melania hosted schoolchildren in the White House garden in September 2017 and appeared to wear a very casual outfit. The price tag of her Balmain shirt (it was $1,500), however, caused an uproar on social media. She wore the plaid top with black skinnies and Converse sneakers.
