This Gluten-Free Granola Tastes Exactly Like Cake and Has Less Than 10 Grams of Sugar

When you open a bag of Safe + Fair Birthday Cake Granola, you'll instantly get the urge to blow out your candles; the sweet aroma brings you way back to icing and party hat days. But what makes this granola special is that it smells and tastes exactly like cake without the calories, sugar, and fat your favorite frosted slice most likely has. Safe + Fair granola is free from the FDA's eight major food allergens, what Safe + Fair calls the "Top 8": peanuts, tree nuts, milk, egg, wheat, soy, shellfish, and fish. It's vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

There are no artificial ingredients. In fact, the sprinkles in the Birthday Cake granola are naturally colored and contain cane sugar, vegetable juice, and turmeric, among other things. (Note: if you're wondering, "Isn't all granola vegan?" you're not alone. As my vegan friend so kindly informed me, most granola is vegan, but some brands put milk products in their recipes, so you have to check labels to make sure.)

A one-third cup serving contains 130 calories, four-and-a-half grams of fat, 21 grams of total carbs, one gram of dietary fiber, nine grams of total sugars, and two grams of protein. I had the granola straight out of the bag, and ever since in my afternoon yogurt. It's not too crunchy, not too soft, and it'll certainly try to take the cake for the best granola you've ever had. Safe + Fair also sells Blueberry Cinnamon, Chocolate, and Sweet & Salty Kettle flavors, and 12-ounce bags are available for $5 on safeandfair.com. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go grab a slice (I mean, bowl).
