The buzz about elderberry syrup ($4) has been growing recently, but Keri Glassman, MS, RD, CDN, told POPSUGAR that this superfood has been used as a cold- and flu-fighting remedy for ages. While the research isn't 100 percent conclusive, elderberry syrup has been associated with immune-boosting benefits in some studies.
"Elderberry syrup is high in antioxidants like flavonoids, and has also been found to have an antiviral effect," Keri added. She warned that you can't expect to take a spoonful of elderberry syrup to cure all that ails you, but adding it to your daily routine, along with better sleep and stress reduction, could be a strategy worth trying. A once-daily dose is recommended for maintenance, but extra doses can be added if you're trying to kick a nasty bug.
