21 Spring-Break Ideas You Can Do With Friends That'll Still Make This Year One For the Books
Spring-break trips are usually synonymous with crowded beaches, packed bars, and traveling to both local and faraway destinations to soak up the sun. While we're already dreaming of booking our trip for next year, we know we have to get a little more creative this year in order to take full advantage of the break from school or work. Remaining socially distant and wearing masks is key when you're around people outside of your household, but that definitely doesn't mean you can't still have fun!
There are plenty of ways you can enjoy your time with roommates and friends at home or outdoors, and even better, many of these activities have spring-break vibes. We're talking picnics, outdoor sports, dance parties, and baking spring-themed treats. You can either pick one or a few of these activities or make an entire spring-break bucket list to get through during the week. You can even give every day a different theme so you can dress up!
We don't know about you, but now we can't stop thinking about how spring break can't get here fast enough. Keep reading for 21 ideas that will ensure this year is one for the books.
Have a Backyard or Rooftop Movie Marathon With a Popcorn and Candy Bar
Having a movie marathon is a great way to relax over spring break, and it can be made even better if the weather allows you to take it outside in some way! Whether it's in your backyard, on your rooftop, or just watching a laptop on your porch, there are a few different ways to set up outdoor movie screens. Oh, and don't forget about a popcorn and candy bar! Stock up on your favorite sweets and set out a few bowls of various flavors of popcorn, and mix and match your snacks all night long.
Have a Spa Night
You can create a spa night at home with nail polish, face masks, lotion, and other calming items. Just put on some relaxing mood music, put your feet up, and chill out.
Have a Virtual Wine and Painting Class
Have you ever wanted to improve your artistic skills? Take a virtual painting class while sipping on some wine! You can sometimes find one as a Facebook event or a local painting store's virtual event.
Make Scrapbook Pages
Commemorate happy memories by making scrapbook pages. You can add pictures, magazine cutouts, stickers, flowers, and more.
Have a TikTok Recipe Night
You may not usually have time to cook time-consuming, fancy meals, but spring break gives you that opportunity! Each roommate can cook a different course, or you can all try re-creating a different viral recipe you saw on TikTok (I recommend going heavy on the desserts!).
Have a PowerPoint Night
You may have seen people on TikTok hosting PowerPoint Nights, which include a variety of topics from three-minute presentations on your unpopular opinion to who's who games with baby pictures and anything and everything pop culture. You can play virtually or hook your laptop up to the TV with an HDMI cord.
Make TikTok Videos With Your Pets
I could watch TikTok videos for hours, especially when they include cute pets. If you have an adorable dog, cat, or other pet, make a video with them!
Bake Spring-Themed Treats
Baking is a fun activity that ends with a delicious treat, and there are tons of delicious and colorful spring-themed treats you can make. From cakes to cupcakes to cookies to fudge, the pastel-colored options are endless. You can even host your own Spring Baking Championship or The Great British Baking Show with your roomies in your kitchen — the mess will be worth it!
Watch a Movie About Spring Break
Even if you can't go on your usual spring-break trip, you can still watch movies about them! From Spring Breakers to 22 Jump Street to From Justin to Kelly (it's a masterpiece, truly), you have plenty of options.
Have a Scavenger Hunt With a Happy-Hour Ending
My friends and I love playing Clue without the board! All you need to do is create your own scavenger hunt of sorts with clues on paper that lead to other clues. Divide into two teams, and see who can figure out the clues and get to the end first! The prize? I suggest a round of these Skittles daiquiris.
Have an Outdoor Sports Tournament
Take a regular game up a notch! Whether you want to play volleyball or basketball or throw it back to childhood with a game of Kick the Can, you can make things interesting by letting the winning team or person pick what everyone else has to wear the next day.
Take a Virtual Cocktail-Making Class
Missing your favorite fruity drink or want to learn how to make something new? Take a virtual cocktail-making class with your besties, and enjoy the fruits of your labor afterward.
Make Your Own Club For a Dance Party
You don't need a bar or club to dance! Decorate your living room, bedroom, or backyard with some lights, and put on a killer playlist to dance the night away with your best friends. You can even theme it for a One Direction or Rihanna night.
Have a Picnic
Bask in the warmth of spring by having a picnic lunch outside. Bring your pets, your music, and all your favorite snacks for a relaxing afternoon in the sun. You can make it a little more fun by picking a park or location none of you have been to before. Now is the time to explore your own backyard!
Get a Tarot-Card Reading Online
Tarot-card readings are an interesting way to learn more about who you are, what's ruling your life, what people see in you, and more. You don't have to go in person to get them, and you can even get an accurate one over email! For more tarot-card fun, we're obsessed with this YouTuber who posts readings for each zodiac sign.
Take a Road Trip
Just because you're not flying anywhere doesn't mean you can't still travel. Plan a local road trip with your friends by either revisiting all of your favorite places in your town, seeing new places a few towns over, or just driving with no itinerary. Just turn up the music and roll down the windows!
Have a Bonfire
Find a spot on the beach or in a forest, and have a bonfire with your roommates. Pack snacks and drinks, make s'mores, and swap funny stories.
