Goodbye, blockbusters of Summer; hello, comedies, dramas, and, well, blockbusters of Fall! So many highly anticipated films are hitting the big screen in September, October, November, and December. Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew McConaughey, Kate Winslet, and Ben Affleck are just a few of the stars with new movies out — some even have two! There are movies based on true stories, movies based on books, and yes, even some completely original movies. Whip out your calendar; it's time to talk Fall movies.

The scoop: Lee (Mara) bites off more than she can chew as a corporate consultant sent to figure out what to do with the dangerous subject of an experiment. If you liked Taylor-Joy in The Witch, you should plan on seeing her as the aforementioned experiment.

The Light Between Oceans

Starring: Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander
The scoop: One of several movies adapted from books hitting the big screen this year, The Light Between Oceans follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife after they rescue a baby. The film, set in post-WWI Australia, was selected to premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The 9th Life of Louis Drax

Starring: Jamie Dornan, Sarah Gadon, and Aaron Paul
The scoop: Fifty Shades of Grey's Dornan takes on the role of a psychologist whose sense of reality starts to crumble in this thriller. Expect to be slightly spooked; it's directed by Alexandre Aja, the man behind 2006's The Hills Have Eyes.

The scoop: Tremblay, who took award season by storm after starring in The Room, plays a young boy whose dreams become reality when he sleeps. It's wonderful — until he starts having nightmares that almost kill his adoptive parents (Bosworth and Jane).

The scoop: The story of the now-famous airline pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who landed his damaged plane into the Hudson River in 2009. Unless it's an unexpected dud, you can count on Hanks making the rounds during award season for this.

The Disappointments Room

Starring: Kate Beckinsale and Lucas Till
The scoop: Dana (Beckinsale) and her family movie to the country for a new start, only to find that their dream home is super, super haunted. Hopefully The Disappointments Room will add something new to the haunted old house genre; if not, it still looks full of fun jump scares.

Other People

Starring: Jesse Plemons, Bradley Whitford, and Molly Shannon
The scoop: Audiences and critics at the Sundance Film Festival loved this indie about a failing comedy writer (Plemons) who comes home to care for his mother when she gets a rare cancer. While it bills itself as a drama, it'll make you laugh until your sides hurt — a strange and wonderful feat for a movie about cancer.

Blair Witch

Starring: James Allen McCune and Corbin Reid
The scoop: Originally billed as The Woods, filmmakers have since revealed that, yes, this is in fact a sequel to 1999's The Blair Witch Project. This time around, James (McCune) heads into the forest to find out once and for all what happened to his sister, the documentarian from the first movie. (You might remember her as the one who is definitely not lost.)

Snowden

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley
The scoop: Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden biopic is finally hitting theaters after not one, but two release date swaps (it was first scheduled for December 2015). Gordon-Levitt is starring as the NSA whistleblower opposite Shailene Woodley as his girlfriend. The whole cast is packed with star-power: Nicholas Cage, Melissa Leo, Scott Eastwood, Zachary Quinto, and Timothy Olyphant are all among the marquee names.

The scoop: You may not have heard of her, but Phiona Mutesi (played by Madina Nalwanga) is basically Uganda's Bobby Fischer. She's a chess prodigy, and since Disney is bringing the tale of her life to the big screen, there will likely be plenty of heartwarming, tear-inducing moments.

The scoop: Another film based on a true story, Deepwater Horizon focuses on the men who were working on the titular oil rig when it exploded in 2010. The accident was one of the worst disasters in US history, and since it's written by Friday Night Lights scribe Peter Berg, we're already stocking up on tissues.

The scoop: Known in some circles as "The Movie With Shia LaBeouf's Rat-Tail," American Honey looks packed full of tour-de-force performances and memorable music. Newcomer Lane is playing Star, a girl who joins up with a band of travelers who want to explore the nation. It won the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Palme d'Or, meaning this is definitely one to seek out.

The Girl on the Train

Starring: Emily Blunt, Justin Theroux, and Luke Evans
The scoop: Haven't read the excellent bestseller by Paula Hawkins yet? If you don't want to ruin the movie for yourself, you might actually want to consider holding off. Tate Taylor (The Help) is directing this adaptation of the thriller, which is busting with talent. In addition to the headliners, Edgar Ramírez, Rebecca Ferguson, Laura Prepon, Allison Janney, and Lisa Kudrow are all starring. The murder mystery is positively poised to be this year's Gone Girl!

The scoop: Based on the true story of Nat Turner's slave rebellion, the bloody and poignant The Birth of a Nation left audiences stunned when it premiered at Sundance. It won both the audience award and the grand jury prize, which is a good omen for its fate during award season.

Given that Fisher and Hammer are basically playing fictional doppelgängers to Adams and Gyllenhaal, I'm all in on this already.

The scoop: If you've seen the trailer, you know this looks like a high school movie for adults. Nadine (Steinfeld) has typical teen angst, but the story seems like it goes much deeper than the surface level "boys suck" tropes. Honestly, any movie where Woody Harrelson is the Cool Teacher sounds pretty great.
