I can't run but I do walk on the treadmill. I go from speeds 3.2 - 3.5 and incline of 2-5. I vary it up every 2 minutes.

I usually always run on an incline on my treadmill. It's different for all people. If you have trouble running on incline, at the same speed you regularly run without an incline, than lower your speed. Simple. Do what works for you. Running on incline, would be similar to running up a mountain. (which my husband and I do a lot & is extremely healthy for you). If you were told not to run on an incline, you shouldn't. This is an article off of that will teach you how to calculate treadmill incline as a percentage:

I'd like to meet this person who can run a 7 min mile for 30 mins straight on a 15% incline... yeah okay there.

@et moi Not sure either. If I set my treadmill to level 5, I'm actually running at a 10%+ incline.

I love to run at a slight incline on the treadmill. But I'm confused: how does 5% translate to a treadmill? What number would that be?

On incline really burns: mind if I ask whom wrote that article? Running on incline is absolutely no good for your knees. Fast walk is ok. I teared a ligament and i was warned NOT to run on incline but I didnt listen. Took me months of recovery and i was lucky i didnt go under the knife. I cant agree on this article. Thats my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
