We're nearing the end of 2016, and the year has been peppered with high-profile celebrity breakups. We've seen broken engagements, broken vows, and the splits of both long-term and newer relationships. Fans were thrown for a loop when news broke that Angelina filed for divorce from Brad in September. While the actress cited "irreconcilable differences" as the grounds for the divorce, Brad released a statement of his own to People that read, "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids." It's still unclear what went wrong, but a source close to the pair revealed to Us Weekly, that "they fought a lot over the years and disagreed about many things. . . . The fighting got worse and they disagreed a lot about parenting." The insider also noted that they would "fight over their schedules and politics."
Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts
September marked the end of another celebrity couple: Naomi and Liev. After 11 years together, the couple confirmed their split to ET in a statement that read, "Over the past few months, we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple. It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship. While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy."
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris
The couple officially called it quits at the beginning of June. While many sources cited boredom or jealousy on Calvin Harris's end, the music producer claimed in a tweet at the time that nothing remained but a "huge amount of love and respect." Things quickly took a turn for the worse, however, when pictures surfaced of Taylor cuddling up on the beach with Tom Hiddleston.
Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama
After nearly six years together, Demi and Wilmer announced their breakup on Twitter in June 2016. "We have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends," Demi said in her official statement.
Mariah Carey and James Packer
In late October, Mariah's rep released a statement to ET confirming her split from James, saying the two haven't seen each other since they had an argument in Greece in September. "The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah," the rep explained. "They are trying to work it out. Right now, they're not sure if they will stay together." The rep also said they plan on releasing a joint statement once they've determined their future.

Hilary Duff and Jason Walsh
Hilary and her personal trainer reportedly started dating over the Summer but didn't confirm their romance until they were spotted holding hands in NYC in September. But just two months later, People confirmed that they called it quits. "They weren't on the same page," a source told the magazine. "He wants to move to New York, but her life is in LA."
Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman
It was announced in April that Drew and her husband of nearly four years, art consultant Will Kopelman, were planning to divorce. They tied the knot in June 2012 and have two daughters together, Olive and Frankie.
Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger
Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger's 10-year-long romance was one of Hollywood's sweetest, but they broke things off in mid-July 2016. According to reps, "Diane Kruger and Josh Jackson have decided to separate and remain friends."

In May, it was reported that Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp after over a year of marriage.
Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer
After 9 years of marriage, Tobey and Jennifer, who are parents to 9-year-old daughter Ruby and 7-year-old son Otis, revealed their choice to split in a joint statement to People magazine. Jennifer and her longtime boyfriend split in August. A source told People, "It wasn't anything dramatic and they were on good terms — it just came to a natural end. Jennifer and Casper first met in 2011, when he was a dancer on her tour, and dated on and off since 2012.

The Batman v Superman actor reportedly called it quits with his 19-year-old girlfriend in May.

Jana Kramer and Mike Caussin
Shortly after the former NFL star checked himself into rehab for unknown reasons, news broke that the duo had separated in August. While Jana and Mike have yet to comment on the news, a source close to the pair told ET that the singer has been "trying to put on a brave face and do what's best for her daughter.
